Bobby Petrino will not return as head football coach at Arkansas, multiples sources have told ESPN.com's Chris Low.
The university has called an 8:15 p.m. ET press conference at which time athletic director Jeff Long will announce Petrino will not be back.
The 51-year-old Petrino was put on paid leave last week after he didn't tell his boss right away that a 25-year-old female football program employee was riding with him during an April 1 motorcycle crash. Petrino, who is married with four children, also admitted to an inappropriate relationship.
Also on Monday, a person familiar with the investigation confirmed to The Associated Press that Petrino's "previous inappropriate relationship" was with Jessica Dorrell, the former Arkansas volleyball player with whom Petrino was riding with during his motorcycle crash on a rural two-lane road southeast of Fayetteville.
Petrino was noticeably vague in the wording about the relationship in his statement last Thursday, and the person spoke on the condition of anonymity.
Long said in a late-night news conference Thursday that he didn't hear about the 25-year-old Dorrell until Petrino called him that afternoon, minutes before a police report was released that disclosed her presence at the accident.
Dorrell, who did not return a call seeking comment, was hired March 28 by Petrino as the student-athlete development coordinator after serving as a fundraiser with the Razorback Foundation. She is in charge of organizing the recruiting process for the football team, including initial eligibility for each incoming player.

good.....I hope his wife divorces him and his children realize their disgust with him......he deserves nothing...
Man, those teeth could do a real job on a cobb of corn!
She probably looks better in person but whatever she looked like she was not his wife.
Wondering the the young woman is still engaged, as she was to be married in June? I am doubting it!
Maybe I’m missing something here. Are foosball coaches not allowed to be normal human beings? Does everybody lose their job if they have an affair? Are foosball coaches special in some way?
I’ll go back to not caring about sports again. It seems stupid and overhyped.
Do people lose their jobs if they have an affair? Democrat presidents don’t.
I’ve always thought Petrino was on the arrogant side. I guess he thought he would be able to get away with anything. Riding on a motorcycle with a blond employee half his age, both without helmets, in a part of the country where everyone knows who you are? That’s arrogant.
I love the hogs so this is not good for the team.
Poor Black Bears of Ole Miss. They could have held out for a winner. A damaged winner, but a winner never less......
News and discussion of current events........Well, it is news...and current events to us in the SEC.
Extended News.....actually, this is FRONT PAGE news in the south, and breaking news in the sports world.
Ok Jim, what am I doing wrong. Why are these stories being nuked to chat/gossip?
I respectfully ask that these articles be un zotted from Chat/Gossip and my appropriate topics restored. IF I am out of order, please "idiot-proof" this for me, after all, I did go Army instead of Navy;)
They’ll have a temporary head coach for a year. I doubt there’s any “money” coaches out there who are available.
His coaching contact says otherwise...
What the married father of four failed to mention, both at a news conference and to Long, was the presence of a 25-year-old female passenger during the accident. That passenger was Jessica Dorrell, a former Arkansas volleyball player and Razorback Foundation fundraiser who Petrino had hired to a football-department position just days before the accident.
That revelation was made public when the state police released the accident report days later. Petrino informed Long of Dorrell’s presence 20 minutes before the police released the report to the public, also admitting to what he called a previous inappropriate relationship with Dorrell.
I knew there was a reason I couldn’t care less about sports and all the overinflated egos and self importance they seem to have.
Jessica used to be first class all the way, until she decided to ride coach.
Yep Becky should dump his sorry butt in Boston Mt's. to be lost forever.
BEFORE he hired her and without telling anyone he was having an affair with her or given her the money!
According to an Arkansas athletic department member, they tried to keep him and have some minor penalties but he would not agree to any terms so they fired him.
What a MESS!
The guy’s making $3.7 mil a year.
Surely he could have hired an ex-Clinton staffer to handle “bimbo eruptions”
That is not true.
Petrino and his wife, the former Becky Schaff, have four children: Kelsey, Nick, Bobby and Katie. Coach Petrino has a granddaughter (Brianna) and a grandson (Braylon).
>>>Maybe Im missing something here. Are foosball coaches not allowed to be normal human beings? Does everybody lose their job if they have an affair?
No, I think this more likely has to do with the 159 potential lawsuits from applicants for the job that Bobby Petrino offered to his mistress.
This person had no reason to lie to me. Nevertheless it’s a mess. Arky did the right thing although I’m surprised to did it.
According to ESPN it was a possibility thrown at Bobby and he didn’t bite. So yeah, it could have been true.
It has to do with lying to everyone including coaches, players, family and friends. He was having an affair for a pretty long time and then hired her as someone who would have constant contact with him on a daily basis. Plus, his girlfriend’s fiancé also coached Olymphics at U of A down the hall from them both.
Then to top it off he said that he couldn’t be fired because he was bigger than Razorback football per ESPN new conference.
Yeah, they're called facts. You don't lie and mislead your employer. Usually that's worse than the crime. It ultimately led to his termination.
Q: Was Petrino acting as though he was bigger than the program? Long: Yes, that is what I was trying to convey.
He might not have lied but he doesn’t know what he is talking about.
Jeff Long didn’t offer and Petrino didn’t want any compromise, period. Petrino said he was bigger than the program this morning and didn’t think he could be fired.
Mrs. Petrino “helped” Bobby pick out the helmet? Where did you get that info?
If that’s true it means this little ride happened on the “sperm” of the moment, as Archie Bunker would say. He says “Hey, babe, wanta’ go for a ride on my crotch rocket?”
“I don’t have a helmet.”
“You can wear mine. It doesn’t fit me anyway. I doubt there’s a helmet in Arkansas big enough for my head.”
Petrino is pissed because he told Jeff Long this morning he couldn’t be fired because he was bigger than the program.
It’s all over the place, news stories, radio sports shows, etc.......
Bobby Bowden should be rested and ready plus he has an impeccable record of honesty.
As I understand it Paul Petrino is under contract. Just ‘cause his brother got fired doesn’t mean he will be. Thought he probably will be next spring but he will get his paycheck. And I doubt his big brother gave him a contract that said “If I screw up, you’re going with me”.
I wish Garrick McGhee had stayed a while longer. Of course, he “knew” Petrino would be there as long as he wanted so if he wanted a head coaching position he’d better take what was offered. And I hope he has more dignity than Petrino. So, if Arkansas goes after him I’d respect him if he lives up to his commitment and turns it down. If they offer to hire him and he accepts he’ll be doing the same thing Petrino did at his previous two jobs.
Isn’t Arkansas State’s coach considered a pretty hot property, or has he already moved on?
I guess that would be a big jump tho.
Who does he think he is...Bill Clinton or Ted Kennedy?
Ark State coach went to Old Miss.
This is a lousy time to be looking for a coach. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t this mean every player can transfer without having to sit out a year? I do know this is going to cost some recruits. Then again, Arkansas wasn’t even in the top 25 in recruiting. But Saban and Miles will certainly be looking at hog players.
The new Arkansas State coach is Gus Malzahn who coached at Arkansas under Houston Nutt and left the OC job at Auburn after tis past season. My guess is that Arky will find an interim coach for this season and hire Malzahn to coach in 2013.
Players can’t transfer without penalty if a coach leaves. They can only do that in the case of NCAA probation. Furthermore if they transfer within the SEC they have to sit two years unless Arkansas waives the rule.
Houston Nutt left and there was no NCAA violation. Mitch Mustain and Williams went to SC and did not have to sit out a year. Same thing with some Texas Tech players after Mike Leach was fired. It may be only those players with 3 years eligibility remaining who can transfer.
Now you really got me torn. Born and reaised in Arkansas and a big hog fan. Went to Baylor so I’m a big bear fan. But, Art Briles would be a great fit. He loves to sling it and Tyler Wilson is his guy of guy.
YIPES! I’m so sorry to have messed up your day.
Mustain enrolled at the University of Southern California (USC) on May 21, 2007. He joined his former Springdale High School and Arkansas teammate, Damian Williams, who had transferred to USC the previous January. Mustain found the West Coast offense run at USC to be appealing, it differed from the spread offense run by Malzahn and appealed to his quarterback playing style.
Under NCAA transfer rules, Mustain sat out the 2007 season and served as the quarterback for the scout team. On December 19, 2007, he was rewarded with the Service Team Player of the Year (offense) award at the Trojan football team's annual awards banquet.
Mustain became eligible to play again for the 2008 season, with three years of eligibility remaining.
I guess I wasn’t paying attention to Mustain sitting out a year because SC wasn’t intimidated by his mommy.
