The definition is a bit off -- not precise enough.

To "cadge" is specifically to ask for something small and of little value, as a favor. It can be mildly annoying if repeated -- then you become a "bot" or perpetual moocher.

E.g. "Can I cadge a quarter?" "Can I cadge a light?" or, in Australia, "Can I cadge a rollie?" (i.e. may I have the makings for a hand-rolled cigarette).

Beaten in 2012,
Obama the media did shelve.
He cadged to refill his stash,
But landed broke on his ass.
Soon rejected in Chicago,
He chose the fate of Iago.

well, one SIL owns her own small biz, another SIL has a brother who commanded a ship in the Navy, many young nieces and nephews who want jobs.....even my lib SIL is hurting financially....what always makes me laugh about her is that she has a son living with her.....in his 30s with no job or desire for one. she is retired and still supporting him. the classic liberal laugh.

Working on a bid that is getting to the stage where it is like pulling teeth to get the final little details...

Obama takes all the money
That he can cadge or rob-
In dire cases, he employs
The tactics of the mob

He’s lost sight of the fact
That this happened before-
We know just what Nixon did
And how he was shown the door

And channeling Jimmy Carter
Isn’t helping his case at all-
Rising gas prices only fuel
More momentum for his fall

US history can’t be theO’s strong suit when he spend grade school years in Thailand....after that he must have coasted on his affirmative action status through constitutional law. A+++

Thank you!

I don’t think the screwups of Nixon beyond Watergate itself are much talked about in HS US history classes-the mob connections, enemy lists, blackmail, etc-it would make young people too knowledgeable. And Carter’s self-designed halo isn’t going to be tarnished by historical honesty as long as he is still alive...

I was quoting from “Raising Arizona.”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salad_days

“Salad days” is an idiomatic expression, referring to a youthful time, accompanied by the inexperience, enthusiasm, idealism, innocence, or indiscretion that one associates with a young person. More modern use, especially in the United States, refers to a person’s heyday when somebody was at the peak of his/her abilities—not necessarily in that person’s youth.
