But...the more I think about it, the more I want to argue for such a law. Consider what she is saying here:
Oil prices affect everything in our lives, including even where we send our sons and daughters in war.
She's absolutely right, but she vastly understates the reality.
Energy truly is the life's blood of a nation and it's beyond foolish, my granddad would have said "Treasonous!", to make us dependent upon anyone else or keep us from what we have.
The only things more important to our nation's security and defense than our energy resources are our willingness and our ability to defend them.
From that point of view, and given the number of wars and foreign entanglements we've gotten into and the various hornet nests various administrations have stirred up around the world over energy, and will again and again, a law sounds like not only a good idea, but self preservation, all at the same time.
Plus, think of the impact removing US demand from the World energy market would do to the price!
Then, consider the additional impact of our reliably adding to the world supply.
Think that would lower the price of petrol in Europe and beyond? Do you think we would add to more to world stability that way than we do now as world cop?
I do.
I am for whatever legal ways that lets us get to true energy independence. I am for whatever reforms we can do to remove the political impediments stopping us from that much better reality!
I think it's going to take a law to make us do the smart/right things, but if we can get it done your way, so much the better.
We call folks who say things like that "liberals." Again, you have a good goal, but an awful and ineffective way to get there. And a damned dangerous way as well.
