Session 463 Advanced Concepts: LENR, Anti-Matter, and New Physics
Cold Fusion Now ^ | April 17, 2012 | Ruby Carat

On Friday, March 23 I attended Session 462 Advanced Concepts: LENR, Anti-Matter, and New Physics of the Nuclear and Emerging Technologies for Space conference, one day after speaking with George H. Miley who would be presenting A Game-Changing Power Source for Spacecraft at the session.

Part 1 of event was an account of my talk with Professor Miley. Part 2 continues with this paraphrase of the four talks included in Session 462. Unable to obtain video of the event, an audio recording formed the basis of this summary.

......................

“What happens is really intriguing here with this palladium-rich nano-particle run. It’s a little confusing to see three different sets of thermocouples, but you can just ignore that, we have thermocouples in different places. When you first start loading, the temperature jumps up, (we’re going up to four atmospheres), and the first part of that we attribute to the deuterium is going into the palladium which is an exothermic, so it’s a chemical heating but you get more out than that.”

“The real intriguing part is when we desorb by reducing pressure suddenly, after a couple hundred seconds. Normally that’s endothermic, the temperature should drop rapidly, but instead it goes up.”

Reporter's summary of the session at NASA Emerging Technologies symposium of the session regarding Cold Fusion.

Of particular interest is the fact that Miley's experiments with zirconium oxide/palladium nanoparticles exhibit precisely the same behavior as Fralick's experiments using a palladium hydrogen purifier tube from NASA's Glenn Research Center in both 1989 and 2009.

"...Fralick's experiments using a palladium hydrogen purifier tube from NASA's Glenn Research Center in both 1989 and 2009."

Awkward phraseology. Better:

...Fralick's experiments at NASA's Glenn Research Center (in both 1989 and 2009) using a palladium hydrogen purifier tube.

I think we’ll be hearing about a whole new series of “intriguing” discoveries as the largely-unknown properties of nanomaterials are explored. Who can prove our current understanding of thermodynamics is as limited as the pre-Einsteinian view of space and time?

Absolutely agree. Have been saying the same for years.

I suspect that nano-materials have little to do with it except to increase the surface area which enhances the absorption of the gas. Some apparently successful experiments have been done with nickle rods...

"I suspect that nano-materials have little to do with it except to increase the surface area which enhances the absorption of the gas."

I think that is probably true for Rossi and Defkalion (as apparently recently shown by Celani...who got even higher power outputs (per gram) than Rossi) who are using pure nickel. But I think a nano-material like Miley's will be shown to allow higher operating temperatures (for both nickel and palladium).

"Some apparently successful experiments have been done with nickle rods..."

Indeed....Piantelli. The Fralick study I mention above is in the same "class" as the Piantelli work....just using palladium and deuterium instead of nickel and hydrogen as Piantelli did.

I'm no scientist or a learned person but I've long thought that "we don't know it all" with respect to physics or darned near anything else.

All these people are making unsupported claims. It's backed up by nothing more than "someone says."

http://phys.org/news/2012-04-electrons.html ~ splitting electrons into spinons and orbitons ought to give new meaning to the term ZIP. Could be some of these experimenters have been doing this all along

"All these people are making unsupported claims. It's backed up by nothing more than "someone says.""

The work has been replicated and reported in the peer-reviewed literature multiple times, beginning with Arata. And in the final analysis, ALL science is based on "someone says", even peer-reviewed material. Especially when the controllers of the peer-review process have an ax to grind, either against a particular topic (as with cold fusion) or in favor of it (global warming). That corruption of peer review is NOT to the benefit of science as a whole.

I have seen a blurb or two about this, but none with the detail of your link. Thanks for the info.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spinon ~ this piece was written BEFORE the spinons and orbitons were OBSERVED ~ which is the point of the reference above. This has all the names and researchers who earlier found things ~ and it also refers to condensed matter physics which is currently part of the LENR universe of discussion. Be a good idea to reflect on what this spinon/orbiton/etc concept may do to the efficiency of electric power transmission, as well as what this process may do to measurements of electric current wherever it takes place ~ even under conditions of which we may not be aware.
