Nearby Dark Matter Mysteriously Missing

A new study has found no trace of the mysterious substance known as dark matter around the sun, adding a twist to current theories, researchers say.

Dark matter is one of the greatest cosmic mysteries of our time — an invisible, intangible material thought to make up five-sixths of all matter in the universe. Scientists currently think it is composed of a new type of particle, one that interacts normally with gravity but only very weakly with all the other known forces of the universe. As such, dark matter is detectable only via the gravitational pull it generates.

Astronomers first proposed the existence of dark matter to explain why stars moved the way they did in the Milky Way. It was as if extra matter was present, exerting a gravitational pull that influenced the motions of the stars.

According to widely accepted theories, the neighborhood around the sun should be filled with dark matter, with billions of these particles rushing through us every second. However, the most accurate study yet of motions of stars in the Milky Way now has found no evidence for dark matter in a large volume around the sun.

if the best scientific minds we produce do not fathom whence goeth dark matter.. then.. it can only be ..

Soros or the UN is behind it. ;-)

Is that an axiom or a corollary, I forget. ;-]

It was over-taxed, and it moved elsewhere.

It’s either due to man made global warming (peer reviewed, of course) or it’s Bush’s fault.

Dark matter near the sun? Do these “scientists” actually know what the sun is?

It isn't really a mystery, or at least the correct mystery. Dark matter was always hypothetial entity created simply because the standard model of the cosmos didn't match the observed universe. It was a fudge factor. Now if it is proven that dark matter does not exist, then they are back to the real mystery of why the standard model does not fit the observed universe.

People sometimes put too much faith in a mathematical model that they ignore the real inuverse, but eventually, observed data must rule mathematical models. Are you watching, global warmists?

Dark matter? Hillary took that first thing, and stuffed it under her Nazi coat along with the silverware. The darker the matter better, as far as she's concerned.

"exerting a gravitational pull that influenced the motions of the stars."

I thought the spiral of galaxies was from the black hole in the center of each, including our Milky Way.

If it’s missing, how do they know that it was “nearby” to begin with? It was probably missing all along, or it never existed, or it’s a scientific myth.

But, I see where, if a theory doesn’t work out, then the scientists will work out a new theory to explain away their previous theories that don’t hold up. The type of science behind darm matter theory is not much different from “global warming” theory. If something doesn’t work or hold up, make up a new theory, and hope nobody notices.
