"You are required by U.S. Law to respond to this survey"
US Government Department of Thuggery | 4/21/12

Posted on 04/21/2012 10:54:33 AM PDT by pabianice

Several weeks ago I received a letter addressed to "Resident." Inside was a 28-page American Community Survey form in which I was supposed to reveal to the government every detail about my life. Today, "Resident" received it again along with a threatening letter requiring me to complete the survey.

I intend to chuck this one, too.

Has anyone else had this experience?

I did same. The lady came to visit but my front door is inaccessible, my first line of defense against JW’s, Mormons, and nosey gov officials. She talked to my neighbor about me but he said hellifino.

I heard that the American Community Survey was a survey instrument developed by the Obama administration in order to keep track of population trends, demographic and geographic shifts, citizens’ political thoughts, addresses in order to send Obama campaign mailings and an address database of those who oppose the Obama regime so that they can be relocated when necessary.

One Saturday one of these ladies approached me while I was doing yard work in the front. I just pretended she didn’t exist; they had no training on how to deal with someone who wouldn’t even acknowledge their existence.

ROFL!! Excellent!

Anything I get addressed to “Resident” is junk mail. All junk mail I receive goes in the trash at the Post Office. However, if I receive one of these, I’m going to forward it to Dingy “The Junk Mail Junkie” Harry Reid. I read that he has a thing for junk mail. He says that junk mail helps him keep in touch with the little people in the REAL world.

Perhaps we should all forward ALL junk mail to Harry Reid.

To his home, not his office.

Yes. This winter, the Census Bureau sent me a letter informing me that they would send me a survey. A week later, they sent another letter informing me that they had sent a survey. A month later, they sent me another letter requesting that I return the survey that they had sent. A few weeks later still, the survey actually arrived (naturally in Spanish, not my native English). After collecting the required information, I completed the survey as best I could and sent it back. Then the survey arrived in English, which I did not complete, fearing that the Census Bureau would find some discrepancy between my Spanish and English responses. The Census Bureau curiously has not contacted me for further questioning.

I received this survey once. I filled it out only with "john does" and sent it in. After all, it says plainly on the front page, "we are not interested in you as individuals"-- So I figured, they really don't need my SSN and those of all my family, and don't really need the name of my employer and how far it is from my house to work. And a host of other intensely "personal information."

Well, they must not have liked that because they sent me another one. I filled it out the same way, basically FU. Haven't heard from them since, about three--four years now.

I received this survey when Bush was still president so it is not an Obama invention.

Options:
1. Take a red sharpy and write “Kiss My A$$” across the threatening letter before mailing it back
2. Fill it out as a minority single mother family with 30,000 dependents and an income of $30 billion. That ought to jack up their statistics.

I got the same thing from the Department of Commerce (Census Bureau) in 2009. The letter was addressed to “Current Resident.” I was selected for a household expenditure survey. They want to know how you spend every nickle every month. They want to see your utility bills, cable TV bills, even your ATM withdrawals. It is unbelievable. I told other people about it and almost no one believed me. I stonewalled them. They pounded on my door several times. I told them to f@*! off. I asked it they had a search warrant signed by a judge. Too bad I don’t have a large dog. The letters kept coming. They say they are from the government and they are here to help me. I sent the letters back with handwritten notes on them. I said I am sick with cancer. They don’t care. Finally after several months they gave up. I was prepared to go to jail rather than give in to this.

File it in the circular file. After all, it was delivered by the US Post Office. And things do get lost.

“ACS” from the Census Dept. has been around awhile...I haven’t had the “pleasure” of getting one yet, fortunately! Apparently there could be fines for not responding, but rumor has it that almost no one is actually fined. More from the Census Dept. “FAQ”:

“Do I have to respond to the American Community Survey / Puerto Rico Community Survey?
Yes. Respondents are required to answer all questions on the American Community Survey (ACS) to the best of their ability. Response to this and other Census surveys is required by law (Section 221 of Title 13, Chapter 7, United States Code). This chapter also contains information regarding offenses and possible penalties. According to Section 221, persons who do not respond shall be fined not more than $100. Title 18 U.S.C. Section 3571 and Section 3559, in effect amends Title 13 U.S.C. Section 221 by changing the fine for anyone over 18 years old who refuses or willfully neglects to complete the questionnaire or answer questions posed by census takers from a fine of “not more than $100” to “not more than $5,000.” “

We’ve gotten three or four notices, and one was pinned to our gate, the others by mail.

We burn them. Except the one pinned to the gate we left up for a few weeks to weather nicely.

My parents got "chosen" for the extra attention in the last census. They are retired, and had to put up with the nonsense for about 6 months, iirc.

In depth in-person interview, with follow-up calls.

I also remember them complaining that a Census call center was bugging them after 9PM on a Sunday night.

We they told me, I told them that I think ACORN got a contract to do that. Having some knowledge of call centers, I'm guessing that at best, they didn't flag the time zone, and at worst, didn't care.
