A 52-year-old Flagler County woman is recovering after her boyfriend accidentally shot her in the legs during a hog-hunting trip, according to officials.
The couple was on a hunting trip at the Cowart Hunt Camp. Flagler County Sheriff's deputies say 52-year-old Steven Egan was inside a tent on Saturday night when he said he heard a noise in the woods, thought it was the hog and fired in that direction.
Instead, it was his girlfriend Lisa Simmons. Deputies said Simmons was struck with a .30-caliber bullet in both legs and was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in serious condition. Authorities said she underwent surgery.
No further details were immediately available.

The Damned fool was shooting too close to sunset and shot at a noise he heard. You can legally hunt until 30 minutes after sunset but common sense should tell you if there isn’t enough light to see what you’re doing.
Sorry to all the posters, but this happens very frequently if you are hunting feral hogs in heavy brush area. Unlike wild hogs, feral hogs will sometimes just sit there and let you walk right by them, and then decide to run.
I’ve P.O.’d quite a few people by refusing to let them come hunt hogs with me. I have one cousin that I have hunted with nearly my whole life, and he is the only one I trust enough to go into heavy brush country with. We have an imaginary line between us, and I know that under no circumstances will he fire across it into my side, nor will I fire across it into his side.
In areas where you have limited line of sight, it is the only way two people can hunt hogs safely.
He’ll definitely have to eat what he shoots...

It says “Saturday night.” And he was in the tent. Most likely after dark, and possibly late at night.
Let me guess that the girl friend maybe woke up in the middle of the night and was relieving herself in the woods.
He wakes up, hears something rustling the brush, and shoots at the noise in the dark. Maybe he should have checked out the sleeping bag(s) first, to see if his girl friend was there.
This is all conjecture, but I’d say it was a case of careless shooting, without checking where his partner was.

In a sane world, he would be charged with ‘careless use of a firearm, and suffer the loss of his hunting privileges.

Good God, what an idiot! If I’d paid to be at that camp at the same time as him, I’d have demanded my money back. He should not be allowed to hunt anything, anywhere, except a package of pork chops at the grocery store...
