A boy impaled on a metal fence was saved after a real-life Lassie drew his owner's attention to the child's plight.
Jack Humphrey, 11, became impaled on the 8ft fence by his wrist when he fell while climbing a nearby tree.
In shock, he tried to jump down from the fence, tearing his arm to the bone from elbow to wrist.
Spike, who was being walked by James Harrigan on land between North Ormesby and Longlands Road, in Middlesbrough, Cleveland, ran off in the direction of the injured boy.

Those are wicked spikes!
FTA He chews everything in the house and isn’t a very well behaved dog, but he really came into his own this time.’
That is the understatement of the century! Good dog Spike! What an evil looking fence.
Thank God! It was only a boy impaled on spikes. I think for a moment that maybe the tractor had fallen on Gramps again.
For all of you who have Pit Bulls, it looks very much like Spike is a GSD/Pit mix. You can tell by his shorter (than a GSD) coat and broad, strong jaws.
Actually, he more likely is a Dutch Shepherd, at least looks like a Dutchie to me. Google a Dutch Shepherd.
Thanks for the ping.
Great story,great dog,great master,lucky boy.
Too short.
Likely a mutt. Possibly some of that in there. Let’s not forget, too, that mutts are often more mixed up than just half-breeds.
That’s a good boy. Who’s a good doggie? You’re a good doggie. Yes, that’s right! Steak for dinner tonight, boy!
Thanks for posting this. It is so uplifting how people and dogs can step up.
Here’s another excellent story at the website: Tebow lives on!
Pure joy! I love the story. Most autistic kids, by Amber’s age, know what is going on....and long to be *normal*. God Bless Matt and the kindness he exhibited. His parents should be proud. :)
Thanks Joe and for the picts Daffy. I hesitated to come to this when I saw the title, thinking he might be impaled on his body. Hope his arm heals back to normal. Good dog!!
