HUTCHINSON, KANSAS, April 24, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) A proposed ordinance in one of the nations most conservative states would force churches to rent their property out for same-sex weddings and receptions. It would also force any public venue to allow people to use showers, restrooms, and locker-rooms based on their gender identity, rather than their sex at birth.
The city council of Hutchinson, Kansas, is considering enacting a new statute adding sexual orientation and sexual identity to the citys non-discrimination policy in all public accommodations. The measure would specifically include churches that rent their property to the public.
If a church has a parish hall that they rent out to the general public, they could not discriminate against a gay couple who want to rent the building for a party, such as a same-sex ceremony or reception, according to a city FAQ about the ordinance. If the church only rents the building to their parishioners, they can continue to do so.
Religious facilities, including churches, would not be able to discriminate against gay and lesbian or transgender individuals, Meryl Dye, a spokeswoman for the Hutchinson Human Relations Commission, confirmed. Unless the city council includes an exemption for churches, it would generate a discrimination complaint for the gay couple and it would be investigated and possibly lead to a fine.
The ordinance would also force employers to allow transgender people to dress according to their gender identity, rather than the persons assigned sex at birth, in the workplace.
A transgender person must be allowed to use restrooms appropriate to their gender identity rather than their assigned gender at birth without being harassed or questioned, the FAQ states. They must also be allowed to use the gender-segregated locker and shower facilities of their choice. Asking for identification to verify sex before admitting that person to the the locker room or shower is classified as discriminatory conduct.
Landlords who rent three or more units may not refuse to rent their facilities to homosexual or transgender tenants.
Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel called the law a collision course between religious freedom and the LGBT agenda.
What we are ultimately going to see is churches forced to confront this law, forced to do things and allow their facilities to be used by people and for events that diametrically undercut the mission of the church, he said.
The prospect is more than theoretical. In 2005, the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal fined a Knights of Columbus hall for refusing to allow lesbians to use the premises for a wedding reception.
Neil Addison, the director of the Thomas More Legal Centre and an expert on religious discrimination law, recently warned that Prime Minister David Camerons proposed bill will go one step further in the United Kingdom. The Government will be obliged to permit same-sex marriage on religious premises on exactly the same basis as it permits heterosexual marriage, he said.
The Court of Appeal in the UK ruled a Christian marriage registrar, Lillian Ladele, had no right to ask someone else to validate a same-sex marriage, because her religious objection was not a core part of her religion. This precedent will compel homosexual ceremonies to be performed on church grounds, Addison said.
We need to face facts. People who don’t like their born sex are in need of psychological care and not social engineering to make them feel accepted. Can you imagine being pulled over by a transvestite cop? How far will this go?
This country has gone utterly and totally insane.
Get ready for the earthquakes, Kansas. God will not be mocked.
Thank you very much for the link!
“Slouching Towards Gommorah” has become racing towards Gommorah.
Force? Only if one lets them.
This is so gay. Whatever happened to separation of Church and State? In so far as marriage is a civil function, I could see forcing Justices of the Peace to conduct gay weddings if they want to have a wedding practice; insofar as it is a religious ceremony, the churches should have the say on what they will host. They aren’t just rented banquet halls or country clubs subject to general diversity laws. Will the Kansas law force priests to perform the ceremonies, too?
Can we demand a barbecue with pork ribs, beer and dogs catching frisbees on the lawn at the local mosque? It’s equally offensive. Why do they get a pass?
No problem. Just book worship band rehearsal in the hall for the next 10 years and tell any prospective renters that they have to ask the band if they’ll give up their rehearsal day/night for the event.
Why are members of the Hutchinson city council still in office? Does not Kansas have rails, feathers and tar? Are there no whips?
Excellent solution...You get a smiley.
Of course this law applies to Mosques, Synagogues, Black and Latino churches, Temples of all kinds...right?
What’s that rumbling I hear and the shaking I feel in my feet?? OH, that’s the foundation of our country being torn apart, no problem/S
Red diaper doper babies and their damn Marxist parents were always insane. They now hold the positions of power in the media, academia, medical boards, and the White House.
They keep those in the Hutchinson city council sex dungeon.
While people jokingly refer to such things, one Microsoft exec had one.
Will you settle for barbecued dog on the White House lawn during a beer summit?

Sounds like the Christians in Hutchinson need to go vote next time and remove all queers!
The day my church supports same sex marriage/receptions is the day I look for a NEW church to attend, if I can’t find one I’ll turn on Rev. Stanley on Sunday morning and stay home.
Because they will kill you if you cross them. Christians don't. Some might say there is a lesson there.
A tech school in Chiangmai encountered demands from some ladyboy students to use the women’s rest rooms. This was met with a “Like hell you will!” from the female students. In typical Thai fashion, the school designated one toilet for “confused people”.
We can’t laugh at these “confused people” or even call them that because it would be disrespectful.
Actually this seems more a demonstration of the local government’s hatred of religion. Time to take the government back or move.

1This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
That's probably been done. See Dogs Against Obama.
The muzzie response would likely be to pin a copy of the new ordinance to the chest of the council members with a 10" knife as a clue to their displeasure. They did that to a newspaper cartoonist over a depiction of Mohammed with a turban full of bombs.

“I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore, Toto!”
The smoke bans laid the foundation for this and those FReepers that celebrated the bans should revel in their successful endeavors. When private property rights are violated for some, it will be violated for all!
Agreed. And I’ll bet you a dollar there will be FReepers outraged over this whose names are well known as supporters of smoking bans..........
Private property is rapidly becoming obsolete.
Public spaces have become Singapore.
Heavy people are becoming the new “smokers”.
