Beach Boys drop first new reunion song 'That's Why God Made The Radio'
Entertainment Weekly ^ | 4/25/2012 | Kyle Anderson

“That’s Why God Made the Radio” certainly has everything a vintage Beach Boys tune needs: Breezy harmonies, references to cars, and an almost exhausting sense of sweetness.

There is something profoundly bizarre about the Beach Boys putting out new music in 2012, especially considering how many artists (especially in the indie world) have exploited the sound they helped invent. Their influence is everywhere, from Bon Iver’s lovely layers to Katy Perry’s beach-friendly youth anthems.

Audio at the link. Good to hear a little classic harmony once awhile in these crazy days ... A fine summer-starter!

The advertising is all over the local oldies station here calling it “THE BEST BEACH BOYS LINEUP IN 40 YEARS” and I think they are right. The BB are playing at the Injun casino in a few days. I hope the members that need a little retirement money do OK. Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and Brian Wilson, Mike Love and I suppose a supporting cast of young gun musicians helping them out... after all they are all collecting SS and medicare by now

“Don’t Worry Baby”

4 out of 6 original members, plus Bruce (since ‘66), not bad. They sound like a Vegas Beach Boys tribute band.

Frankly, it is just a terrible, terrible song. Extremely disappointed. Not anywhere near up to the Beach Boys’ standards. Just awful.

DO they really need money that badly?

They may be getting up there, but the review of their concert last night in Arizona said they performed 42 songs!

This would make them the hardest working men in show business being that James Brown has passed on into the great beyond.

One wonders if this awful song and its even worse recording were the basis for the compromise among the warring three principals.

My wife and I used to be close friends with Denis Wilson's ex (and mother of 2 of his sons). One time she brought me some tapes... she had been cleaning out old stuff at her house, and had these unpublished works by him. I had high hopes of discovering something new and really great... but they all turned out to be utter crap.

I’ve had a long standing admiration for Beach Boy music so it pains me to say this song is monotonous and lacks the creative energy the songs were so well known for.

It may not be “God Only Knows”, but it sure is better than crap like Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga.

“Kokomo” sucked as well, but didn’t it win a Grammy? Brian can’t sing live, hasn’t been able to in decades. Years ago they played along the Lake Michigan shoreline, and Mike Love could be heard telling the sound man “turn Brian’s mike down!”

And the movie it came from, Cocktail, with TCruise and that Bryan Aussie guy was pretty good too. Kinda stupid but still very good
