A large part of difference is the attitude and the proximity. The camera is much closer (making her look larger). Her demeanor communicates depression.
Guilty.
That’s right - if she had the same smile on the 2nd photo as she had on the first (and as you said, same size picture) she wouldn’t look that much different. I think this article is geared to sell cosmetics like NuSkin!
Noticed that too - the “after” (or is that really a “before”?) picture looks purposefully as unflattering as is possible.
She’s not smiling after a month.
Women who don't feel pretty get depressed. Depressed women look unattractive. Things spiral.
I disagree. I think she’s cute.
A simple smile would make a world of difference.
Looks like an occupier..
Or if she was carrying a 6 pack and a Hoagie.
A face like an old shoe.
We’d have to find out how she smells before we could brand her as an occupier.
I was once engaged to a real beauty. She used no makeup at all. She did do such things as keep her hair neat, combed and was very clean.
The girl I married was even prettier. She did use some makeup but I always thought she was the most beautiful right after bathing and before putting on any makeup at all.
If she was smiling in the 2nd pic she would look fine and hasn’t she ever heard of nail polish remover?
Why didn’t she remove the nail polish before she started her one month?
Didn’t read the whole post, so is the 2nd picture taken after the month? If so, looks like she’s still wearing the same dress and earrings.
I tried wearing makeup every day like other girls. I think I only made it a week, and that was back in junior high. It took too long to put on and take off, and made my face itch, so I ditched it. Now I only wear chapstick, and sometimes a little lip stain on special occassions, and you know what? Nobody cares.
I’m wondering if some of her skin problems are actually the result of slathering herself with chemicals and powders for so many years.
Hah! Thank you - You made me chuckle out loud for that comment. Recently I started contemplating this question. Decided that I really don’t want to know. I am going to be 65 this summer and will soon have a new boss who’s in her mid-30s. If I ever do get to retire, I may just check it out when the risk of scaring people is lessened. I do agree that those who smile are a lot more attractive than those who don’t, no matter what.
I’d like to see what men would look like after a month without Viagra....now that would really be a letdown...
If you read the entire article, girlfriend is fairly high maintenance. Right down to monthly microdermabrasion and eye brow threading. Her at home cosmetic choices are also extremely high end as well. I guess the “chemist shops” mass market stuff isn’t good enough.
She also odd things like NOT removing nail polish and going on “holiday” with a bikini but NOT waxing or shaving and the wondering why she got stares? Really...ever hear of a one peice?
All in all a weak peice.
You are a guy & yet you nailed it perfectly! If I don’t FEEL pretty, clean, & smell good I look horrible. For me & for many women being well groomed is our armour to face the world.
I mean that in the most positive way too. I think making yourself as attractive as possible is a gift you give to the people you run into.
Yep. If they'd used the same focal length and distance, and if she had the same facial expression as the first shot... It would not look like such a dramatic change. She's a pretty girl, and it shows through even without makeup, IMHO.
Beauty is a projection of self love
If you Love Yourself, it will shine through
I’ve known many women,
gorgeous on the outside and empty as a tomb within;
plain as a mud fence and gold to the core
I’ll take the latter anytime
Learned that lesson @ tender age of 16
One who Loves themselves, can Love others in great bounty
One who is empty within, will be empty without
If you depend on others attention for your own self image,
you are a setup for failure
About the same. Makeup is just shoe polish.
So you think all men take that?
If I dont FEEL pretty, clean, & smell good I look horrible. For me & for many women being well groomed is our armour to face the world.
Also in the photo on the right she's not wearing make-up.
Yikes!
???
Almost no 39 year old men need viagra.
Care to make a better analogy?
It looks like she hasn’t washed her hair for a month
also. Pretty frightening.
At least they kept the lighting and clothing similar between the two although the lighting is designed in both to reveal texture .. not removing the remnants of the nail polish is wrong.. should be on or off ,, not ragged. As noted by others attitude/lack of smile is a big factor here.
The photos remind me of those stupid weight loss before and afters.
The chubby woman has messy clothes, uncombed hair, no makeup, her chest is sunken, and her posture if terrible, and she is frowning. After she loses 15 pounds, she has had a total makeover including new clothes, is standing up nice and straight, and is wearing a lovely smile.
So cliche.
Amazing — 28+ posts w/o a HT pic or reference...
You had to put it in the air
5.4.3.2.1...
Actually, the lighting looks different, the color balance, or in the latter pic looks a bit flat and “flourescent” that makes anybody look bad, or at least worse.
Getting old sucks, tho consider the alternative...

OK, I'll give you an HC shot instead.
Hey, what happened to that woman’s second ring in the right picture?
She looks like a meth user in the the 2nd photo.

Makeup works wonders!
Uh, well.....I’d look pretty much like I looked a month ago. I rarely wear makeup, it’s expensive and time consuming.
I no longer feel the need to seek the approval of others, so I don’t. Different strokes for different folks, though.
She did wash her hair—just used “cheap” shampoo (w/sulfites). One part of her monthly salon regime was a pricey keratin treatment for her hair. It glosses and smoothes the hair shaft. You HAVE TO use a sulfite free shampoo to maintain the keratin, cheap shampoos break it down (and hair goes back to limp and frizzy.
I’ve gone 57 years without make-up.
Another thing you will notice--a man whose self-esteem depends on his wife's appearance is also due to many divorces.
Not to mention leaving her nails to lose the polish rather than just remove is a weak attempt to make a better before and after comparison.
She has freckles on her but she is nice!
I'm a Doctor,
One learns to look beneath the surface for meaning
The story is much too long for here
Nurses are frequently very good judges of ones worth
So are Pastors / Priests
To see past the veil
I also had gotten burned badly as a teenager
by one who was “gorgeous” but empty
It was a painful lesson, but most durable
Married for >3o years, she aint killed me yet
The Divorce is due to a breach of oath
But, be that as it may
Love of Self is a projection of God's Love
ANYTHING else is an illusion,
and will collapse like a house of cards
