Police: Vikings Player Arrested After Birthday Party Beating
CBS/AP ^ | April 28, 2012 9:04 PM | unattributed

MINNEAPOLIS (AP/WCCO) – A Minnesota Vikings running back is in jail after he allegedly beat up a 22-year-old man early Saturday morning at a birthday party in Oak Grove.

Twenty-four-year-old Caleb King is currently in the Anoka County Jail, pending formal charges, authorities said.

***

King and the victim came as guests to a 21-year-old woman’s birthday party. The party took place at a home on the 3400 block of 192nd Avenue Northwest, which belonged to the woman’s parents.

Things appeared to be going well until 3:15 a.m., when the victim allegedly told King he looked like a celebrity. King took offense to the remark and followed the victim to a car.

When close to the car, King punched the victim in the face...

***

After the attack, the victim told police the homeowners helped him into the home but refused to call police. Instead they told him they’d drop him off at his house. However, when the victim initially tried to call 911, authorities were able to track the phone’s location and send an officer.

When police arrived at the scene, the homeowner said there had been no problem at the party and that no one needed help. As the homeowner spoke with police, the victim was inside his home, suffering from his injuries.

***

It’s the latest off-the-field issue for King, a highly touted recruit at Georgia who ran into several problems during his college career. He was arrested for failing to appear for a court date on a speeding ticket and declared academically ineligible in his final year at Georgia and went undrafted in the supplemental draft before signing with the Vikings.

The celebrity King was compared to is not known.

The new "c-word": celebrity.

I wonder if the homeowners could be liable in any way for refusing to call the police when the victim asked them to.

As a part-Norwegian, it does kinda make me a little misty-eyed thinking about the good old days.

Pillaging, burning villages, hearing the lamentations of their women...

Where have all the good times gone?

I believe, in most places, a home owner would be responsible for this, because he didn’t take reasonable steps to prevent it.

The victim, a Coon Rapids man whom police have not identified, is in serious condition at Mercy Hospital. Police say he suffered fractures on his face and skull – injuries that required more than 50 stitches to close.

...

Police arrested King at the house without incident. He denied that he punched the victim, saying that the man just fell over while the two were talking.

Well that's believable.

I’m wondering if the Vikings could be liable for knowingly hiring a player with criminal convictions in his past?

There would appear to be plenty of felony behavior for interfering with a 911 call, and lying to police about the need for help, keeping the injured man from obtaining medical help, and the injury from the thug, and mostly, that the Viks think they can rehab a thug.

King is accused of punching him repeatedly and throwing him headfirst to the ground. The man was hospitalized in serious condition with skull and facial fractures, as well as with cuts that required more than 50 stitches to close, Sheriff’s Cmdr. Paul Sommer said.

The man “may have a very serious brain injury,” Sommer said.

They should not be taken on a team with a history of criminal activity in the first place.

Character should have a lot to do with chosing players. Thugs cause too many problems and lose too many fans.

I was pondering which species the Rapids were named after and (sort of) concluded that since it was in Minn probably after the 4 legged species.
In the South it would have been a tad more direct.

Also figure the name is ‘grandfathered’ and back when places were being name the only species would have been the 4 legged ones.

However, one never knows.
