You guys do realize that your car almost definitely already has this right? If your car was made after 1990 it’s probably EFI, if it’s EFI it has a computer, if it has a computer it has the accident buffer. Not sure why they bothered to make it a law, since it’s already happened.
Event records are not the issue, & yes, most of us realize (as the article noted) that we’ve had these devices in cars since the 90’s.
This is the issue:

Of course. What has changed is the fact that it's now being mandated by government.
Private sector initiative vs. government mandate. It's all the difference in the world...
