Pack and Go - Traveling with Heat

Posted on 05/02/2012 9:47:20 PM PDT by BookaT

Here is a nice little tool to plan your summer vacation with. If you don't have solid summer plans this might aid you in planning, to make sure you patronize states that get it.

Just found this while searching for a car safe and thought it was a great little page that can help CC people stay out of trouble with panty waste states.

Enjoy!

neat site. What if one is traveling by motorcycle.?

I can see the states that allow reciprocity. I can see the states that allow open carry (although it would invite "further inquiry".

How about the general fed law stating that it can be carried, provided it is locked in a container. Where on a cycle is a locked container?

Thanks for the link BookaT

One thing I found that could be a problem with the site is I planned a trip through Wisconsin which came back reporting that my CCW from MN was not honored. In reality it is, I knew this already but since its a recent law it was a good way to check the reliability of the information.

If you follow their link to the Wisconsin CCW laws page, this discrepancy is cleared up but is not correctly cross referenced into their planning tool.

Its still a good tool and a great link, but this should serve as a reminder that it is still very important to trust but verify when your freedom is on the line.

Regardless, thanks for the cool link

I just learned that in the state of Connecticut...in the cities of New London and New Britain, there are now local ordinances that you can’t CCW.

If you CC right, they will never know. Plus, how is a CT non-resident CCW permit affected by local ordinances. Are we expected to know every law, the state has?

I am a LATRINE lawyer....Do Ordinances state the penalty? Who makes the arrest? What court adjudicates the charges? Traffic tickets, such as speeding or failure to obey traffic signals, are usually classified as violations.

There is a Federal law, commonly named the “safe passage law” which allows a CCW permit holder to travel from his state through another state legally if his final destination honors his permit, or he has a non-resident permit for that state. As I remember the gun must be unloaded and secured in the trunk ie. Concealed.

So as you travel on RT84 in CT you go through NB you are breaking NB ordinance.

As a former LEO I can tell you this, I would bet not one LEO in CT knows about the “safe passage law”. Carry a copy of it with you!! Keep your lawyer’s phone number handy.

If the LEO wants to search your car, DO NOT give him permission. Tell him to start with a dog, or get a warrant. Remember the 4th Amendment and remind him of it.

A handy resource.

With my FL CCW permit, I can drive all the way to AZ and back with my permit honored. As it should be.

Check New Mexico’s laws before heading there, from this article, they may not be honouring a lot of permits.
