In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
numen \NOO-min\, noun
Divine power, especially one who inhabits a particular object.
Example sentences:
This liquid flowing up his arm and out of the other was numen, the divine substance, the sacred spirit that lives in a certain place in the body and sustains us all.
-- Jonathan Carroll, White Apples
He was now fairly confident that a shrine, unlike a temple, would contain no resident numen.
-- Dave Duncan, Present Tense (Round Two of the Great Game)
Etymology:
Numen is derived from the Latin word nūmen meaning "a nod, command, or divine will or power."
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
I yell that too! I was yelling “Get a handle on Yandel!” last night, much to my husband’s chagrin. And when my favorite player was called for a penalty as they announced it, ‘Two Minutes to Martin Erat for’ - I yelled BEING AWESOME!! Everyone around us roared.
"Hello Numan"
are you kidding? it was the RANGERS on nonstop powerplay in OUR end! the guys behind me kept say, why does it feel like we are killing a penalty??? xshub asked me if i wanted to leave after the second OT ended, bc he knows what time i have to get up, and i said no, we can’t possibly leave now. Bret and his wife left at some point during the third period, i didn’t see them go, but just noticed at one point they were gone.
at one point xshub looked up at the out of town scores and said, well Nashville’s game is over, and it started an hour after our’s.
beat me to it.
Each team had almost 50 shots. Depending upon what part of the game we are talking about, there were alternating streaks of domination. The very beginning was all Washington. The last overtime was all Rangers. And there were major fluctuations in the other four periods.
We kept checking ours and saying they’re STILL in OT??? What the heck??
our seats are down behind the goal, so we saw each goalie MULTIPLE times all night long! xsjunior and i will be in attendance on Saturday aft. Hoping for a diff outcome : )
Great story! So many quotable lines!
Excellent! A+ for you.
Those dogs look like they just heard Obama was coming over for dinner.
I ROR’d! Dogs are great.
that little one is obv wagging its tail saying, what? is something wrong???
Good luck (but not too good.) I'll look for you in the crowd. Wear something red so you'll stand out.
It took a great deal of composure to snap the pic instead of screaming “What have you done?”
oh i meant to tell you xshub and i were talking about her yesterday and he said that given her CV, it’s almost a certainty that she only got hired on to Harvard faculty bc of the minority status, specifically amer ind. not woman. Her academic career was pedestrian. I forget where she went undergrad, but RUTGERS law school? third tier at best, and her first teaching job was at the U of Houston law school, which was barely accredited at the time. AND she went directly from U of H to harvard? xshub said there would never been any other professor at harvard with that career trajectory given those academic credentials. the minority status is the only explanation.
It’s also how some people springboard to the presidency.
i know you do ; )
We’re wondering who they will have on Friday night.
You are so clever. A+ for you. Did you watch our boys last night? Goose had a good game.
we have discussed it before but, hootenannys and hockey, in my mind, do not mix. the idea of musical acts at hockey games just doesn’t appeal to me. makes sense for Nashville, i guess, bc that is the industry that is in your town.
Nashville is Music City and it makes sense to have entertainment between periods, which always includes live music on the bandstage. Having good music is hardly equivalent to a hootenanny, which I have never attended, and we have all kinds of music here. Don’t knock it unless you’ve tried it. You don’t have to be in the music biz to appreciate it, although our area has a pretty good proportion who know it.
Sorry, I noted the end result but only caught a bit of the NYR-WAS game before hitting the sack early w/ a bug (probably, all the better ;)
Glad you’re back in it, hope you can square things in Gm 4...
whatever floats your boat. it doesn’t happen to float mine, so i am just saying glad you enjoy it, but don’t worry i am not jealous : )
The game was endless last night! DH asked if you were there. I could barely keep my eyes open, in fact the moment the winning goal went in I had taken off my glasses to rub my eyes and missed it. Could hardly keep them open and focused. Went to bed the instant it was over. Sorry they both couldn’t have won. I was amazed at how exciting the whole thing was. Who knew I would like hockey?
An affirmative action hire? How amusing.
Only everybody who who has ever watched hockey. ;-)

Cool story on the news last night. I hope this is the right video, I’m blocked from seeing it right now.
Some perv tries to lure these teen boys into his car. They matter-of-factly describe how he gave them money to get in the car.
“We took the money. But we didn’t get into the car.” LOL
Lucky they weren’t tazered and put in car. Scary.
Back from an estimate in some alternate universe-my contractor buddy and I couldn’t wait to get away from there-that customer really has no discernable connection to reality. We put on “Lunatic Fringe” in XXX’s truck and cranked it up as we were leaving their driveway...
John Edward’s trial is a movie
About a sleaze just barely human-
He has a wacko for a mistress and
Worships money as being his numen
Never mind that his wife was dying-
He didn’t want that to spoil his style
He thought the title of “president”
Might appeal to him for awhile
The mistress was so far out there
She saw fit to raise a stink
And call her spiritual adviser
Before she knew what to think
Someone on Fox said you just couldn’t make this stuff up, and I have to agree.
A+ for you.
I have to LMAO every time they say something new about the Edwards circus-I heard today that Hunter threw a tantrum over a sandwich not being made to her specs while she was staying with her keepers, the Youngs-she supposedly called her guru over that, too. I might have found a way to send her to the nearest psych facility, if she had been staying with me and acting out like that.
Thank you!
And I’m so sorry for your neighbors’ loss-may God bless and give them comfort.
You know very well that the crazy people outnumber us.
That is true-and it is much harder now to get even a dangerously unstable individual treated for 30-60 days, even if they self-commit, thanks to rampant frivolous lawsuits.
They don’t say that but it was amusing anyway, this dudes weird!
Was out all morning, in and out all afternoon, will have to catch up on that drama. Circus? And this was during the campaign? LOL
Yeah, the Ralph Ianotti video report has the teens, but doesn’t show their faces. It focuses on the kid’s hand holding a canned beverage The one says he took the money cause he wanted to buy a drink at the store. LOL
