People partaking in a popular drinking pursuit "possum" are causing headaches for staff at Dunedin's Botanic Garden, who are forced to clean up broken bottles, food scraps and vomit left behind.
The drinking game, played by the city's students, involves participants sitting in a tree like possums while consuming large volumes of alcohol.
It ends when the players descend the tree voluntarily or fall from it.
Dunedin City Council gardens and cemeteries team leader Alan Matchett says garden staff first came across possum players about four years ago.
Since then, he says, the game has grown in popularity to the point where it is "not uncommon" for garden staff or security guards to have to chase players away.

I am not cleaning vomit, thank you.
I think this was invented by Keith Richards.
‘Dunedin’ reminds me of Florida.
I wonder if the town has New Zealand origins.
That was my thought. I grew up in Clearwater. In another article I read, it said these kids go up the tree and drink 24 beers. The first one to fall out of the tree wins.
Just one of the many reasons for “The Dawin Award”, IIMN.
Dunedin, NZ is named for Edinborough, Scotland...
Its in Otago the Scot Province...
What a bunch of morons.
Can’t you get alcohol poisoning from drinking 24 beers?
However, if anyone is visiting the North Island, I HIGHLY recommend the Possum Museum in Napier. Its hilarious! Since possums began devastating the country-sides and gobbling Kiwi birds like they were gum drops, NZ has launched a full-throated campaign to wipe them out. This museum has displays of the various ways to kill them and it is worth a special trip to see. The NZ possums aren't the weird white things we have in America, they're like a cross between a badger and a dog. You can't drive at night without hitting several.
Load up on possum coats, hats, gloves and blankets at the gift shop...every dead possum helps.
Who’s mae?
Fannie’s sister.
