Turn on any given television set on Saturday or Sunday, and you will find a multitude of channels blasting the glories of NFL or NCAA football.
Flipping the channels, you see quarterbacks annihilated, one-handed flying catches and incredible physical feats performed in front of thousands of spectators in awe of the mesmerizing performances of our greatest athletes.
Football is woven into the very fabric of our lives. The attitude to compete in the most intense and resolute manner is inherent in all of us.
Americans are truly some of the most driven and ambitious people in the world, and often we will do whatever it takes to achieve our goals.
We have been playing football for more than a century, achieving fame and national success right around the same time America came to military prominence on the world stage.
When looking at American public policy and seeing how the rest of the world perceives America, look at how football has shaped the American attitude and perspective of everyday life.
Our frame of reference is molded by television that blasts us with images of our triumphant football players that have become the modern day embodiment of ancient Roman gladiators.
The attitude that is slowly imbued into our personality structure is not of a predisposition toward violence, but rather what we so proudly call our All-American competitive drive.
Look at it closer. Just as America is currently at the top of the world food chain, thousands of years ago, Rome was the cultural and economic epicenter of the world, with both countries hosting the fiercest athletic competitions in the world. Rome held coliseum games and was the greatest military power in the world for hundreds of years.

I confront liberals every time they pull the moral equivalance bullshit.
And that's what this is.
I will enjoy the day that I get to look into the faces of the mind numbed idiots of this country who vote for the dems as they turn on their TV’s one Saturday or Sunday to find that NFL Football is gone and has been replaced with co-ed flag football.
Yep, ignore the bad economy, ignore the immigration policy, ignore the envrio whackos making energy unaffordable ignore the nanny staters who want us all to wear helmets to go to the toilet. Nope, its the Republican’s (who run nothing) fault. Its not about logic or reason or finding solutions to the real problems facing the nation, its all about making sure the right people get blamed.
Honestly, when football is the next target on the liberal hit parade, the country is gone.
Sports are the opiate of the inebriate.
Hockey is far more intense and entertaining.

OR infinitely worse, soccer. That wonderful Eurotrash game where two guys barely touch fingers and one of them will fall over and writhe and scream enough to make the average 7 year old American girl embarrassed that anyone would act like such a metrosexual wussy.
“Except for the part where they aren’t slaves and can quit whenever they please, aren’t expected to fight to the death, receive state of the art medical care and get paid millions of dollars. Other than that... “
What a pantload. Football is a tough game played by tough men, but its not even close to the blood, guts, and death of gladiator fights. Such ridiculous drama should be left to emotional liberals, not clear thinking logical conservatives.
Guess the author never watched a rugby match. American football is tame in comparison.
Gorillas, wearing body armor, standing around holding meetings for most of 3 hours, only to have all of them wander off the field in good health, hardly equates to Roman gladiators.
That’s pretty deep. I suspect those who are already “inebriate” wouldn’t need an opiate, though.
I usually get the good meth out when we are watching football.
And, of course, the halftime program differs a little. No criminals (or Christians) being fed to animals. No female criminals raped to death by trained bulls or stallions. No skits of mythological or historical events with the participants really raped, burned, tortured, crucified, etc.
Night games differ too. The lighting isn’t criminals (or Christians) with clothing soaked in pitch, hoisted on poles and set alight.
Oh, spare us. The same wusses and liberals are attacking soccer because of the supposaed horriblle dangers of heading the ball.
...and they’re the evil .1 of 1%ers:
“Highest-paying teams in the world”
