The Avengers is one of the few movies that actually exceeds its hype (did the marketers purposefully hide how good this film is to build word of mouth later?) and is not only one of the most entertaining films of 2012 thus far, but may be the most enjoyable summer blockbuster Ive seen in years.

Affirmed both the Stars and Stripes and one true God.
Saw it yesterday with the family and friends. Thought it was great. Lots of action, lots of laughs.
Glad. My teen son and his friends went to see it last night.
Here’s the pertinent line from the article and the movie:
Theres only one God, maam, Captain America responds, and Im pretty sure he doesnt dress like that.
Yea, Caps line was good.
Awesome, I can’t wait to see it. I’ve been told it’s hilarious.
The wife and I went to see this last night. I hate most movies, because they are just so stupid- nobody acts like real people. There was some of that in this one, but little enough that I was able to put it aside and enjoy the movie.
I highly recommend this one!
And imho, the Hulk has the best line in the movie- without saying a word!
I saw it last night. It was showing in four of the 16 theaters in the complex. All four were sold out. Best movie of the 2012 so far.
“I AM A GOD...!!!!”
I think I know what you’re referring to! The Hulk was the best thing in the movie, and the entire thing was great.
I loved most the part where The Hulk slams the bad guy L against the floor 3 or 4 times like a rag doll! What a way to treat a demi-god...

thank God whedon the director, took out the lib speech Cap was going to give.
like a guy from that generation would back owscum.
anybody know what the Hulk says to Loki after he thrashes him??? i was laughing too hard to hear him...
'The Avenger's' affirm's, 'There is only 1 God'
The Avenger's i's one of the few movie's that actually exceed's it's hype (did the marketer's purposefully hide how good thi's film i's to build word of mouth later?)
I have never seen lines at our brand new local multiplex since it opened here in Wasilla, Alaska until yesterday for the matinee of Avengers.
I decided to buy the first ticket for the 3D matinee instead as the 2D looked sold out, my son and I had the best seats though we had to wait an hour.
It was an unusually good movie, the Hulk did indeed steal the show, Black Widow was a little on the plump side but still hot hot hot.
And the special effects were awesome, its a Josh Whedon movie, same as Serenity.
But I will nitpick one idea, having an aircraft carrier floating in the sky was stupid stupid stupid, too vulnerable and everything should have been anchored to the deck, looked cruelly cool though but still a stupid idea.
Iron Man should have brought a reserve of his battle suits and Captain America needs Dragon Skin or some better body armor, he isn’t bulletproof.
Thor seemed unusually weaker or more human.
And Marvel should have had a prequel movie of Hulk, he stole the show but he isn’t like what we have seen in years past.
In summary its a grand flic worthy of admission and a patriotic one, stay until the credits pass for a teaser.
I may go see it after all. Recently I’ve been watching a lot the DC’s Justice League and JLU and maybe that has softened me a little.
Other than Atlas II, there was nothing on the movie radar for the year.
I think the Alien prequel, “Prometheus” will be another blockbuster.
The belated US release of “Battleship” may turn out to be a turkey, it was sent overseas first because of bad reviews.
But The Dark Knight should be the biggest film for the year.
Damn.
It was okay. Some of it was a bit over the top in the graphics.
The "Avengers" was great. My sons (10 and 7) loved it. They can't stop talking about it.
If you can find it, watch the cartoon Ultimate Avengers. It came out a few years ago. It has a great Hulk vs. Everyone fight.
And it has Hank Pym and Wasp.
My son was saying the aliens were more like Locusts from Gears of War, kinda makes me go hmmmm, maybe we will see a big screen version in the future?
Puny god...
thx...
In the end there can only be one!
watching Battleship right now, just started...
This was one of the things I was referring to that I had to ignore- it's only in there because it's the traditional Shield headquarters in the comics.
There were 2 Hulk movies, both sucked because they missed out on what makes Hulk a hero. Whedon fixed that with one line, when Harry Dean Stanton’s walk on character said he saw Hulk stear his fall away from people, even as a creature of rage Hulk is has Banner’s soul or self sacrifice.
SHIELD’s flying fortress is cannon. And something Nick Fury fans have been waiting to see since Jackson’s first walk-on in the roll. And yeah historically that thing is more trouble than it’s worth.
Cap’s armor definitely had some improvements, it was mentioned and they were visible. Bullet proof who knows.
My friend and I thought Thor seemed more god-like than his movie. He’s done some growing up. He understand consequences now, which made him more cautious but more of a leader too.
I hope now that Whedon fixed the cinema Hulk they give him another movie.
This was definitely better than the movie we expected.
“Some god.”
thx... kinda makes more sense
“watching Battleship right now, just started...”
You must be outside the US?
Please send a review, I had high hopes for the movie because well it involves the Missouri saving the human race when high tech fails. Hollywood decided to postpone the US release and sent it overseas first to make money before it hit the US markets, they are still reeling from the John Carter debacle, of which I personally thought was decent.
I never read the Avengers comics, the carrier should have had at the very least a 3-1 redundancy, 12 high lift fans with only needing 4 to remain aloft, and should have emergency backup rocket thrusters.
It was cool looking but the one from another movie from the 1930’s, the one with Angelina as the captain was more functional. Sky Captain I think it was.
i can see why it opened overseas... so far, it sucks
check your FReepmail
Atlas II?
Atlas Shrugged Part 2.
If it has 3-1 redundancy then it can’t be attacked as easily and you don’t have a handy source of plot tension. In a comic book world where you’re going to be seeing something 4 or 5 times a year things like that need weak spots, huge gaping weak spots that get exploited every year. It’s nice to have a place the good guys can rest safely from the bad guys, but it’s more important that it need to be saved FROM the bad guys occasionally.
I also loved his "Cabin in the Woods" which isn't doing nearly as well as Avengers.
Oh, I don’t know...I thought “Puny god” was a pretty good line.
They did show stuff being anchored to the deck, which is why I didn’t understand how stuff could be sliding off later.
Puny god seems to be the most often understood thing. I saw someone say he said “demi god” which I like better, although maybe a big word for The Hulk.
they should of made it louder... they HAD to know people would be laughing their azz off!!! 8^)
From a revenue standpoint I think Dark Knight Rises will suffer from not being in 3D. Those extra few dollars on tickets that Avengers will make a big difference over several million people seeing it. I’m personally very happy about DKR not being in 3D. It was shot all in IMAX though, that does make me happy.
Yes, we all did love the scene with him and Loki. And the scene afterward with him and Thor. Wham!
My son and I think he said “puny god” and my wife, who was sitting right next to us, thinks he said “demi god”. Who knows??? It was a cool scene though.
Puny god.
hoc and I went to see the Avengers tonight - I think every showing in two theaters in New Braunfels were sold out. It was great. There were some hokey lines and the space warriors were not well designed, but the movie as a whole was 5 stars.
I spent my allowance on comic books as a kid and then discovered science fiction. The movies rarely do either well, but this time they did.
I can’t help but wonder whether Hollywood understands how subversive movies like this are. When one man stands to tell the bad guy he won’t bow to a man and that there will always be evil men, when Captain America talks about self-sacrifice for the cause and for the team, and when the Captain talks about “one God,” the themes of too much entertainment are shown to be ugly, selfish and shallow.
(I’m thinking that an example of the opposite would be “The Iron Lady” that tells Maggie Thatcher’s life story as though she lived an entire life through moments of dementia.)
That was a great moment with Hulk... but I think the best dialogue is below. [Highlight it to see it so I don't spoil it for those who haven't yet...]
Bruce Banner: "I don't think we should be focusing on Loki. That guy's brain is a bag full of cats. You can smell crazy on him."
Thor: "I care how you speak. Loki is beyond reason, but he is of Asgard. And he is my brother."
Natasha Romanoff: "He killed eighty people in two days."
Thor: "He's adopted."
Cap was going to give a pro OWS speech?
LOL
Yes, that was fantastic. Whedon can write ‘em!
