I suspect that both parties, Dems and Pubs, are trying to hold things off until after the November elections. So maybe the Mayans had it right.

It's not just the Mayans who have prophecies that point to this period. Also include major political, economical and physical events that are on the increase.
That's what makes each prophecy and event more unnerving.

Look for the "end of the world" right afterwords. End of the age is more like it, IMO. The Bible speaks of a wonderful new age that follows this one and speaks of an untold multitude from every nation that do survive a great tribulation.
