Yeah, did that in 76 and gave Carter two votes. The one I didn’t give Ford and the one I gave Carter. Worst decision of my life. There were many of us absolutely furious with the GOP-E because they froze out Reagan. Ours was a protest/vengeance vote, ALMOST RUINED THE COUNTRY. Sometimes one has to put statesmanship and one’s love of country above one’s personal feelings.

I would not purport to tell you what to do, I am a Palin/Gingrich/Santorum supporter. I can only share the deep regret I still hold for turning Jimmy Carter loose on America. I could not even begin to fathom the buyer’s remorse that will come to a conservative that loves his country and then supports Barak Obama.

I still am not sure whether I can pull the handle for Romney or will just undervote (none of the above)-GOP loses one vote, Dems gain nothing; a vote for Obama is a two vote swing.

Think about it, I am praying for all of us conservatives and fully understand JR’s statesmanlike stance. In the end we must all do what is best for the nation - right now I am hoping for a brokered convention to allow us to vote for Romney with a better conscience.

A brokered convention would probably leave us with Romney but not without some national party plank concessions from Romney to the conservative wing of the party; this would allow us to hold him accountable especially if we can take the senate. Romney’s ego would force him to govern right of center to ensure reelection. With this I could vote for Romney (still holding my nose) knowing we will continue to add conservitives down ticket in the midterms. This would also set the stage for a true conservative presidential candidate for the next twenty years or more.

Every decision has a cost, some costs are too dear to pay (Carter). Good luck with your decision.

Since it's apparent that the majority of this site's members will not be voting for Romney and their attacks on both me and others who misunderstood JR's message have been relentless, I have decided to forgo my support of Romney and instead, give my vote to Obama in accordance with the wishes of the majority.

I am so sorry you have made your decision based on the above "in accordance with (what you feel) are wishes of the majority." It is sad for you, and for our country. Friends or not, please make your choice based on something more than emotion, other people's anger, feeling hurt, and certainly on more than you "know the name."

Perfect candidates seem hard to come by anymore, and our country is being led by people on both sides who are not people we always want in leadership and agree with all the time.

One thing I think about that helps me pick a candidate when I find myself concerned about all of them is: Which person would I want to...take care of my family if I passed, handle my business affairs, handle my check book, protect my home and property? Who seems to be mentally stable and more like a person who could replace me in my household or advise me on important matters. Who could I really feel comfortable with, like one might trust a Godparent, or relative, or life long friend, even if I know they don't do everything the way I would do it.

Those important questions can indicate how you feel about a candidate's basic values, traits, ability to show love and respect, and ability to assure the safety and security of your most important assets - especially your children and grandchildren. I wish you ... a longer thought process before you make the final decision.

From the vanity: I chose Obama since the third party hold outs still can't come to an agreement on who they will support.

Wow! Nice cop-out...

The third-party people have had exactly four weeks -- less than a month -- to react to Santorum dropping out (& less than that re: Gingrich)...

Plus Romney hasn't even been nominated yet...

So here...(r) primary voters had, by comparison, 12+ to almost 17 months to decide who they were voting for...and you're impatient for the third-party people who've had less-than-a-month to react & unite???

Truly pathetic.

I’m sorry you’ve decided to cast a vote for President Obama, a marxist socialist. At least you are open about it. I’m voting for Romney despite my personal loathing for the man. He’s better than Obama.

(Vs. the Romney proselytes/the Romney converts...who convey to both Romney & the GoP-E..."Hey, you can politically sleep with me, anytime!"..."From here til I die...you decide")

Not all of course, in fact most here are fabulous but the loud mouths who tear everyone and everything down are indeed making an impression. Just my humble opinion.

You mean like that tolerant group over on the John Travolta thread?

Just look at how many people, on this most Republican of sites, have rallied around a CP candidate nobody has ever heard of outside of those of us who hail from VA?

Yup...so far...Virgil Goode is who I'm votin' for (CP = Constitution Party)

Tom Hoefling (eternalvigilance) is also worth considering.

on this most Republican of sites

Go back and read the welcome page of Free Republic. FR is NOT a republican forum. It is a conservative forum. And right now, there is a big difference.

Ah, the machine has done it’s work. Split the conservative vote. How does it feel to be taken in by Soros?

I’m at the verge of closing down my username entirely here. This place has been infiltrated by Obama/Soros bacteria. In all the years I’ve been on this site I’ve never seen anything like the craziness I’ve seen at FR during this election. Obama a better choice than Romney??? For God’s sake, we supported George Bush, we can suffer through a few years of Romney. Check the box, get this idiot out, and start working on the next election. You can’t tell me another four years of Obama would be better than four years of Romney. What is the matter with you people?!?

Since it's apparent that the majority of this site's members will not be voting for Romney. . . .

I don't think that's apparent at all. I think most--perhaps a large majority--will probably end up voting for Romney over Obama.

Yawn. So far the classic GOP scare tactics aren't working on me. You got six months to keep trying. The Neo-Whigs have a long time to work on us.

I think this site needs an “I take it back, I was way too stressed when I first posted” feature.
