Turtles purloined from Flamingo Gardens mysteriously returned

Five days after they were snatched from a Davie wildlife center, purportedly by two rowdy and foul-mouthed teens, a pair of beloved turtles were anonymously returned Friday.

Zippy, an orange and brown Eastern box turtle, and his companion, a Florida box turtle aptly named Florida, turned up at the Flamingo Gardens wildlife sanctuary tucked in a blue pillowcase. They had been missing since late last Saturday or early Sunday, possibly stolen by two raucous teens who had threatened employees at the center at 3750 S. Flamingo Road.

"They were OK, they were in good condition," said Laura Wyatt, the center's wildlife curator. "We're absolutely relieved."

They'll probably turn up in some youtube video driving a moped or some such in a couple of days - as soon as the editing and soundtrack are done.

Not that I condone endangering animals needlessly, but lets hope it was simply something that stupid and innocent.

3 male red-eared sliders, 1 female yellow-bellied slider, 2 Eastern Painted (1 baby male and 1 adult female) The first one was the largest male red-eared slider. My son has had him for 19 years. The LAST one was the baby Eastern.
