Full Title: Her Majesty the Corgi Whisperer: Californian cowboy who became a close adviser to the Queen tells of her remarkable affinity with animals
In his Stetson and red neckerchief he could be mistaken for just another American tourist on the streets of Windsor hoping for a glimpse of the Queen. But unlike the other sightseers, Monty Roberts is here at Her Majestys personal invitation, having served as a trusted adviser on her beloved horses and corgis for the past 23 years.
Monty first arrived at Windsor Castle in 1989, after the Queen heard about the Californians ability to tame wild horses using gestures and noises. Her Majesty has benefited from his techniques ever since.
Widely known as the Horse Whisperer, Monty is nothing short of a global phenomenon whose methods inspired the novel and film of the same name.
Now 76 years old, he continues to work with the Royal horses, but also helps out with the Royal corgis and Prince Philips ponies as and when he is needed. Its an unlikely partnership Monty is every inch the charming cowboy, and has a colourful way of embellishing his stories yet somehow it works. Last week, Monty was one of three people to lead the Queens personal horses in a pageant to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. It was something that the Queen had asked him to do in one of their many telephone calls.

“...sweet little dog,” indeed.
