Diablo III Laptop Benchmarking

The highly-anticipated release of Diablo III has finally happened and we wanted to see how this game performs on some of the new laptops that have just come out from both Intel and AMD.  Last month, Intel released the companies 3rd Generation Core Processors (Ivy Bridge) that also included a huge boost in gaming performance thanks to the included Intel HD Graphics 4000 processor that has 16 execution units. Intel has created a ton of buzz about how good their new graphics processor is, but are they better than what AMD has to offer? Intel might have been able to say that they have managed to catch up to AMD, but that all changed yesterday when AMD unveiled their 2nd generation APU (Trinity) that has AMD Radeon HD 7000 series graphics inside. It looks like the notebooks with integrated graphics are now able to produce discrete class graphics, but are they enough for new game titles like Diablo III?

We have all waited over 10 years for this game to come out, so you want to make sure that you are running it on the best platform possible right? Do these new laptops with integrated graphics have what it takes to run Diablo III? That is the goal of this article and what we plan on finding out!

Diablo III Benchmarking Laptops

To benchmark Diablo III we will be using two notebooks. On the Intel side we have the ASUS N56V notebook with the Intel Core i7-3920XM Ivy Bridge Processor and Intel HD Graphics 4000.

I am not a gamer....but I am interested in how this AMD Trinity performs.

Anadtech and others have reviews using the stock benchmarking tools,...but seeing a real game performance is better.

I’d have to build a new computer before buying that game...so I guess I’ll wait.

Wow...it looks like these new APUs have a very decent GPU in them. I wonder how they perform on compute tasks with OpenCL. Any ideas?

First links from a gaming website :

AMD A10 'Trinity' APU Review Round-Up

I rumbled thru the conclusions...and the main interest is the gaming.

Anadtech really digs into what AMD did with the reengineering effort to the Bulldozer CPU and the IGT>>>>very interesting....

My conclusion is... I want one.

Acer is running a sale on their Llano Laptops at Newegg....I guess clearing out the old inventory,

User reviews for the old Llano laptops were generally positive ...some unhappiness with what Acer put with the chip.

The reason behind this is the integrated GPU. AMD’s is superior. This really only applies for laptop gaming since a discrete GPU typically is not added on to most laptops.

Trinity will be a decent budget processor, but Ivy Bridge is still the overall superior processor, and you're obviously going to have to pay a bit more for it.

Absolutely. Intel is getting better, but AMD still has them beat on that aspect.

Intel has a solid die generation. They will always protect their monopoly. OOps your cell phone plant.

I’m still trying to beat Diablo II with an untwinked hardcore character. Not holding my breath, me.
