Mick Jagger will close out this season of NBC's "Saturday Night Live" as both host and, along with Foo Fighters and Arcade Fire, musical guest. He does so at a moment when his professional reputation is not exactly at its high water mark.
[snip]
I will take the admixture of flops and gems that Late Jagger yields over what I'm getting from Late Richards which is not much of anything.

I saw Keef about 30 years ago with the New Barbarians. We were right on the wall in the old Atlanta Omni, he wasn’t 10’ from me for most of the show.
He looked like death warmed over back then.
Too bad Gilda’s no longer around to perform this classic on SNL:
Gimme Mick, gimme Mick
Baby’s hair, bulgin’ eyes, lips so thick
Are you woman, are you man
I’m your biggest funked-up fan
Gimme Mick, gimme Mick
Baby’s hair, bulgin’ eyes, lips so thick
Are you woman, are you man
I’m your biggest funked-up fan
So rock me and roll me ‘til I’m sick.”
[Struts up and down the stage]
“Some girls want Travolta
All black and white and slick
But there’s screamin’ hunky mamas yellin’
Gimme Mick
Well my fine performance
Take my wife and all that shtick
Makes me die just ta meet ya
(Gimme Mick, gimme Mick
Baby’s hair, bulgin’ eyes, lips so thick)
Are you woman, are you man
I’m your biggest funked-up fan
So rock me and roll me ‘til I’m sick
You, Mick Jagger, actually continue to perform at a concert where someone got knifed and killed during the 60’s
You, Mick Jagger, are English and go out with a model and get an incredible amount of publicity
You, Mick Jagger, don’t keep regular hours
You, Mick Jagger, have the greatest rock ‘n roll band in the history of rock ‘n roll, and you don’t even play an instrument yourself
(Rock ‘n roll, rock ‘n roll
Gimme gimme gimme rock ‘n roll)
Gimme gimme rock ‘n roll
(Gimme gimme gimme gimme)
Gimme gimme
Gimme gimme gimme gimme
Gimme Mick, gimme Mick
Baby’s hair, bulgin’ eyes, lips so thick
Are you woman, are you man
I’m your biggest funked-up fan
So rock me and roll meeee...
‘Til I’m sick [burps]-Ugh!”
He got all his aging out of the way early to be better prepared for his golden years.
Best rock and roll band ever.
He was kinda right. All that prancing and posturing. Mick knows there are dudes in the audience, right?
They went downhill after "Exile"
The Rolling Stones brought slime and trash to the Rock and Roll world. Bad enough that the Beatles looked like girls, but these dirtbags brought all the sleeze and filth you could haul to Rock and Roll. That’s my opinion, so . . . there!
Whose got them moves like Jagger?
The Who, circa 1970 was the best, IMHO.
The old Mickster is 69.
“AIN’T TOO PROUD TO WEAR DEPENDS”
“START ME UP WITH MY PACEMAKER”
“I CAN’T GET NO BOWEL MOVEMENT”
“JUMPIN’ JACK FLASH MY PACEMAKER JUST SHORTED OUT”
“LET’S SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER SAYING THE SAME THINGS OVER AND OVER”
“RUBY TUESDAY SO IT’S PUDDING AT DINNER”
“TIME IS ON MY SIDE BUT NOT GRAVITY”
YOU CAN’T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT AND WHAT I WANT IS THOSE DAMN NEIGHBOR KIDS OFF MY LAWN”
At least Mick is a Tory.
And he still blows people half his age off of the stage.

I'm not a fan of “bests”, but that would be very difficult to argue.
And in continuing my break with not picking favorites, this is the best song from the magnificent repertoire of the legendary band:
Quote possibly the most overhyped band in history. There is no reason, aside from longevity, that they should be mentioned among the rock and roll elite.
Hey! (Hey!)
You! (You!)
Get offa my lawn!
I’ll try to check it out. My first question to you was going to be did Mick get a haircut for the movie. Looks like he did. Thanks for the tip.
“At least Mick is a Tory”
Sir Michael’s a Tory? Blimey, I had no idea. Thanks for that.
The dude’s knocking on 70. Yes, his face looks like a relief map of central Asia but I think he runs 6 miles day. If true, it’s pretty amazing.
Listen the the lyrics of “Shake, rattle, and roll” from the 50s. Rock has always been about sex, fun, and rebellion and may it always be so!
Yeah, but the Rolling Stones made it "look" trashy and filthy. The Beatles just looked like 4 harmless girls.
It seems Mick has kept his politics quite private, which is wise in the media/entertainment world . . . if one is a conservative. :)
LOL! Good one.
The late James Brown, and, to a degree, Tina Turner, both of whom had the moves lifted by Jagger.
You owe me a new keyboard. My old one has coke all over delivered via my nose and your post.
+1
“Pirates of the Caribbesn: On Strange Tides”:
Johnny Depp [CPT. JACK SPARROW] to Keith Richard {CPT. TEAGUE SPARROW] “You ever been to the Fountain of Youth?”
Richard: “Does this face look like I’ve been to the Fountain of Youth?”
Quote possibly the most overhyped band in history. There is no reason, aside from longevity, that they should be mentioned among the rock and roll elite.

OK. It’s a subjective thing. And knowing you owe us nothing, but when folks suggest as you have, that x band is not worthy of being mentioned among the rock and roll elite, you admit that such a thing exists. Who’s your vote for rock and roll elite?
I’d have to the Exile era Stones on the list. For who they are today and what they are playing today, likely not.
LOL! I’ve never seen that movie, that’s a riot!
The Stones went through a very dark period from ‘68-’73. Altamont was the first low point, where the Hell’s Angels beat a black man to death during a performance of “Sympathy for the Devil.”
It’s clear from Mick’s reaction that what began as a satanic pose for publicity purposes, had spun wildly out of control.
Check out this promotional video for “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.”

Mick seems to be truly possessed.
The creepiest era was the time around the filming of “Performance.” The debauchery surrounding the filming was appalling. And the single, “Memo From Turner,” associated with the film, is suitably deranged.
I read “Life”, and surprisingly, despite all of the drugs, Keith comes across as a pretty sharp guy. I think when he appears in public, for the most part, he puts on an act.
“Listen the the lyrics of Shake, rattle, and roll from the 50s. Rock has always been about sex,....”
Same from 1953 with ‘60 Minute Man’ by the Dominoes.
“OK. Its a subjective thing. And knowing you owe us nothing, but when folks suggest as you have, that x band is not worthy of being mentioned among the rock and roll elite, you admit that such a thing exists. Whos your vote for rock and roll elite?
Id have to the Exile era Stones on the list. For who they are today and what they are playing today, likely not.”
Fair enough :)
However one could mention the Beatles, Elvis and others whose body of work is above the rest as “elite.”
I am 27 but I’m a classic rock ADDICT! Pink Floyd, Dire Straights, Supertramp, Jeff Beck, Steely Dan, Chicago... I’d put every one of those guys above the Rolling Stones any day. Their music was far more polished, IMHO.
Haven’t listened to the Exile era stuff. I’ll check ‘em out for the sake of fairness :)
The Angels didn’t beat the guy to death. They stabbed him. AFTER he pulled a gun. No charges were filed.
They did, however, whack Marty Balin from the Airplane upside the head with a pool cue. That’s what happens when your security detail is paid in beer.
And he does. And he pulls no punches about his drug use.
And if you want to see another side of Keith, watch “Hail Hail Rock and Roll” documenting when he was the music director for Chuck Berry’s Tribute concert.
They didn't whack him hard enough, judging by how lame Starship was in the 70s.
Gosh, I remember growing up listening to Rudy Vallee and Al Jolson and Glenn Miller. Oh, that’s right, the Boomers said they were too old and old-fashioned and you couldn’t trust anyone over thirty.....but you can now. We truly are “a generation lost in space”.
The Stones were never meant to be polished. They always had a ‘bum notes are Ok’ philosophy. The rawness and energy are a big part of their attraction.
WINOS FOREVER!!!!
