A new paper published today in Geophysical Research Letters describes how the oceans have warmed only 0.09°C over the last 55 years, from 1955-2010. Dont let the red line fool you, read on.
That last bullet point makes me cringe a bit, because I seriously doubt the resolution of this study down to hundredths of degrees seeing the sort of measurements mess weve seen in the surface network. Nonetheless, even if the resolution is low, theres little trend.
At the Hockey Schtick they write about Trenberths missing heat:
According to the authors, this resulted in a sea level rise of 0.54 mm per year [only 2.12 inches per century] and corresponds to 0.39 Watts per square meter of the ocean surface. However, the IPCC claims the increase in CO2 from 1955-2010 should have warmed the oceans by 1.12 Watts per square meter [5.35*ln(389.78/312) = 1.12 W/m2].
Thus, even if one assumes all ocean warming is due to increased greenhouse gases, the IPCC has exaggerated climate sensitivity to CO2 by a factor of almost 3 times [1.12/0.39]. [This is why Trenberth can't find his "missing heat"-it never existed in the first place]. In reality, greenhouse gases cannot warm the oceans at all because they radiate infrared which only penetrates the surface of water a few microns to cause evaporative cooling.

there is no way to measure ocean temperature to that level of accuracy, so this is all nonsense.
It's around here somewhere. Everybody check your pockets. Have you looked in the glove compartment?
The Mann has the heat up his butt.
Unh, maybe the heat is re-radiating FROM earth on the dark side of the world?
As I recall, the earth rotates once every 24 hours, leaving just about half the world faced AWAY from the sun during that period.
A period during which that part of the earth is NOT receiving radiation from the sun.
As long as there is liquid water on the surface somewhere, this temperature regulation mechanism will continue working just fine, thank you.
Dang, with all the whoopla, they couldn’t even hock up a tenth of a degree C over 55 years.
Duh you dumb ass deniers. The ice melts and drips into the oceans thereby cooling them, obviously heating the ice and cooling the oceans.
In all seriousness, one of the leading theories by the global warmists to explain the “missing” heat in the oceans, is that it’s somehow sequestered in the ocean depths.
This means we’re now at the point where the so called climate experts are saying that warm water is sinking to the ocean floor. Nobody with any common sense is buying this of course, and it just goes to show how desperate the global warmists are becoming.
At least in the ocean we have the ARGO program ....
who said anything about the land?
I think all the missing heat is being stored in the FLOTUS’s body to soon be unleashed on the POTUS.
“Occam’s Razor says it’s simply hiding in the crevices of CO2 molecules but you go ahead and believe that solar radiation is affecting the Earth from 93 million miles away. “
You need to study solar radiation some more.
Yes, the radiation does get to the earth, and it directly affects the amount of clouds on planet earth. The more clouds, the cooler the global temperature.
If you believe that nonsense you probably think gravity reaches across empty space and affects the orbits of planets 100s of millions of miles away.
Thanks for the chart, always a good one.
