Phillip Phillips Wins 'American Idol,' Show Called Racist, Rigged (VIDEO)

The ever so modest Phillip Phillips won "American Idol" Wednesday night, and while some say it was well deserved others have insisted that the show is "rigged." After the Georgia hometown boy won "American Idol" Wednesday night, many came forward and insisted that that enough was enough on the singing show, which according to some is clearly "racist."

"[In the] last 3 in finals, one was black, who was the best singer, one was brown who was also great singer, one was white who was a karaoke singer; guess who won, the white one of course, when will America stop being racist?" RRedBird commented on Yahoo.

Other news publications also pointed out that Phillips is the fifth consecutive white person to win in a row. The New York Times suggested that perhaps the cause was a fault of voters.

"Mr. Phillips is the fifth fundamentally sensitive white male singer in a row to win the show, a fact probably indicative more of stagnation in the 'Idol' voting base than in a resurgent interest in tepidity," reporter Jon Caramanica wrote.

It has been pointed out however, that more often than not, those who are successful on "American Idol" are most often from the south.

The disparity of achievement is a direct result of the democratic party stronghold on the black population. Perhaps that is why education does not occur in inner city public schools, they must keep their voter base under their thumbs and beholding to them. A little REAL education would set them free but the democratic teachers union will have none of that..

I didn’t watch a single episode of AI this year, but did watch on and off in the past. I think one thing that has hurt the black or other minority singers is that the show has featured dozens and Whitney Houston and hip hop wannabes, and assorted screamers and yellers trying show more voice than they have to show. That’s get old and less and less impressive.

And no doubt many votes are cast based on the viewers identification with the contestants, which might just mean they like a particular type music better than other types, and that might or might not correlate with their race.

Bravo! Monty Python. I have taught AP Composition for years and this is how we refer to this. I get students to be on the prowl for examples.

Sorry, no sale. The demographic of American Idol that actually votes isn’t racist. It’s sexist.

The charge some of these folks are making also applies to two of the judges. Randy Jackson and J. Lopez haven’t yet mastered the art of subtlety if they even know what it means. Both are so very blatant in their bias and cheerleading for certain contestants, so much so that I’m amazed there is not more outcry about this. If the show is “rigged”, then it may be because the so called “mentor” to the contestants, Jimmy Iovine, tries to influence fan votes through his comments about said contestants after their song selection meeting and just before they sing the live performance. Add in J. Lo’s incessant babbling on about her favorite contestant and Jackson’s same ol tired schtick (also biased), and the show becomes a display of mediocrity covered over by back-up singers, audio enhancement and props. None of the judges actually “judges” or makes constructive, helpful criticism or suggestions.

Just listened to both for the first time. Neither are up to some of the contestants from previous years, but I think Phillips should have won. To me, Sanchez has a flat, almost monotone voice most of the time, another Whitney wannabe. Phillips at least has a unique sound and some variety of tone in his voice.

Randy Jackson picked the losing song for Joshua Ledet (20 year old Black kid). Etta James ? a grandma song...

Then Steve the coach picked his other losing song.

I hope they make it up to this kid.

Of the two left, they crowned the right American Idol... He was fresh and unique.

Didn’t Donald Driver, black receiver for the Green Bay Packers, just win Dancing With The Stars ?

I’m sure that the same people that watch Dancing With The Stars also watch American Idol ?

There is obviously a bias for athletes. Half of the winners of Dancing With the Stars have been athletes - 7 out of 14.

From: http://blogs.montrealgazette.com/2012/05/23/athletes-steal-the-show-on-dancing-with-the-stars/

“Driver becomes the seventh athlete to win the competition and the third NFL player, following Emmitt Smith (season 3) and Hines Ward (season 12). Other athletes to win the Mirrorball Trophy are speedskater Apolo Anton Ohno (season 4), IndyCar driver Helio Castroneves (5), figure-skater Kristi Yamaguchi (6) and gymnast Shawn Johnson (8).

Other past champions include model Kelly Monaco (1), singer Drew Lachey of 98 Degrees (2), model Brooke Burke (7), singer Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls (10), actress Jennifer Gray (11) and retired U.S. soldier J.R. Martinez (13).”

As second runner up she will be out there and making some money I think.

I believe that's first runner-up.

Jessica is 16 years old and has amazing talent. Similarly, Josh is an exceptional singer.

But Phil Phillips was a singer of songs more to my liking. I was for him fom his first appearance and am gratified by the fact that he won.

No, I didn't cast any votes atall.

I didn’t care for the winner, nor did I like the runner up. When she couldn’t hit a note she tried to scream it out and turned it to a growl which was in appropriate in many of her songs.

I didn’t care for the style of the winner, but of the two, I believe he should have been the inner because he DOES have some talent for re-writing old music which can be lucrative for the music industry. They will be paying him to make them money and he has a better chance of doing that than she does.

All in all, I didn’t think the singers were all that outstanding, and for that reason I simply didn’t vote for ANY of them!

Comparing AI with AGT, AI was just plain boring. Although I can’t help but hear the program due to the arrangement of my home, I rarely ever watched it. Just enough to learn who the contestants were.

I DO take time out for AGT. I think it has true entertainment value and can’t help but roll with laughter at the antics between the judges. Howard Stern was an excellent choice and as far as I’m concerned, he makes the show. Otherwise, it would be as boring and stoic as the rest of the talent type shows.

I don’t think that the black football player who won Dancing with the stars should have won. THAT was a racist win. It’s hard to say if he won because he’s black (an affirmative action type win) or because he’s a superbowl football player, but to me it had nothing to do with his dancing abilities. There were other couples who did a much better job. He was stiff and had that bubble butt gait with stiff clumsy feet throughout the entire show. I kept waiting for him to break out in the ‘gangsta walk’ at any moment.

There were 3 other couples who were absolutely excellent, and In my opinion, any of which should have won and didn’t.

However, the public can voice their opinions and call in their votes for their favorites. If they don’t, oh well..

I wish the winner of AI the best. I don’t care for his style of music, and so far wouldn’t consider buying his records, but obviously somebody likes him..so Good Luck Kid!

If the last five winners had been, say, black females or some other politically correct group, nobody would dare complain. It’s only because they’re white, straight males that people see it as evil. I say, let white, straight males win American Idol. They’ve lost their country. Let them have this one thing.

Haven't listened to AI for a while. Rather listen to singers who can hit and support a pitch rather than those that try and "own the song" by adding vocal riffs that are pitchy and don't add anything.

Re the riffs: If the aren't done by Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Mary Dillon or Niamh Parsons, I probably wouldn't like them anyway...

This comment is what's wrong with American Idol.

In 2012, Americans have no idea what good singing is.

Neither of the two finalist were anything exceptional, though Phillips might have a future due to his unique voice in the vein of Joe Cocker or Rod Steward and others with slightly off tones in their voice.

There have been many like Sanchez on AI before, singing Whitney Houston and not all that well.

There have been two female singers on AI that compare favorably with Sanchez: Underwood and McPhee.

Sanchez is astonishing and it takes a fairly refined ear to tell the difference between her gift and the talents of the female also-rans from the preceding years

On top of that, she's only 16 years old. Whitney Houston was nowhere near Jessica's level at 16.

The Idol competition has become a joke. The cutest white guy strumming an acoustic guitar has won for the past five years. They were all marginally talented and won on the basis of tween girls and their mothers voting 50- 500 times each.

Was it racist when Ruben Studdard edged out Clay Aiken in Season Two?

As for most top talent on the show being from the South, it’s because they learn to sing growing up in church.

Strictly a matter of opinion. I didn't watch any episodes this season, but watched three Sanchez performances on youtube today. A singer has to do something other than hit the notes, and she just has a flat, monotone sound. Maybe she should have waited another few years before trying for the big time.

I bet she doesn't sell well if she records right away. We'll have to wait and see.
