The Department of Homeland Security has been forced to release a list of keywords and phrases it uses to monitor social networking sites and online media for signs of terrorist or other threats against the U.S.

The intriguing the list includes obvious choices such as 'attack', 'Al Qaeda', 'terrorism' and 'dirty bomb' alongside dozens of seemingly innocent words like 'pork', 'cloud', 'team' and 'Mexico'.

The 9/11 terrorist attacks took 3000 innocent lives, triggered US invasions of two countries and has ushered in an era where we Americans accept and tolerate being relentlessly monitored and spied on by our own government - online monitoring, public cameras, drone aircraft in US skies...this is starting to make the East German Stasi look like small potatoes in domestic surveillance.

I thought al-Qaida was mostly defeated - the government keeps saying so. Why is the government ramping up it's domestic surveillance instead of winding it down? Yes, it's a rhetorical question.

So - Mr. Gumshoe has moved into computers, and is watching messages with seemingly innocent words like ‘pork’, ‘cloud’, ‘team’ and ‘Mexico’.

Solution:
1. change “pork” to “sweinfleisch”, or “the new white meat”.
2. substitute “atmospheric water caused visual obscurant” for cloud.
3. use “collective effort” instead of team.
4. use “Messico” for both accuracy and avoiding Mr. Gumshoe.
