The Department of Homeland Security has been forced to release a list of keywords and phrases it uses to monitor social networking sites and online media for signs of terrorist or other threats against the U.S.
The intriguing list includes obvious choices such as 'attack', 'Al Qaeda', 'terrorism' and 'dirty bomb' alongside dozens of seemingly innocent words like 'pork', 'cloud', 'team' and 'Mexico'.
Released under a freedom of information request, the information sheds new light on how government analysts are instructed to patrol the internet searching for domestic and external threats.

The KGB is alive and well in the USA in the disguise of DHS thanks to all the progressives hiding like cockroaches in both political parties.
I bet Kenyan usurper gets special attention.
As long as I am not advocating violence against the ruling elite I should be safe but you never know when it comes to a government filled with scum who will laugh at you if you even mention the US Constitution. Like Pelosi, Pete Stark.
Because the government has wandered into the the arena of thought crimes it is likely not being sorry if one of the ruling elite gets hurt could bring scrutiny.
Yup. I’ll bet Eric ‘Just Us Department’ Holder has some input on what he wants monitored. Little fascist thug ...
That would include every member of Free Republic. It is irrevelent taht you have nothing to hide. The Government is spying on people that dislike the way the Government is doing its job. How is that different than the KGB or the Gestapo? It is too high a price for supposed security against terrorists! I suspect that the program is better at spying on Governmmental opponets than terrorists...
F U B O
Nice to hear they have the Carnitas appreciation forums in check.
Freedom, Free market, second ammendment, constitution, personal responsibility, God, Jesus, republican, Tea Party, conservative, and don’t forget Free Republic.
It's a sad day when lil old ladies, nuns, 8 yr old kids have to stand there while some rent a cop sticks his hands all up in their privates.
Not one freakin muzzie terrorist has been detected, not one!
Uncle Sugar is out of control.
So if I posted something like “I’d like to attack Al Qaeda using a terrorism team from Mexico to bomb them from the clouds with a ton of pork” I should expect a visit from the Obama goons?
Took the team down to mexico for some pork carnitas - on the way back saw it cloud up and rain. Those carnitas were the bomb but the restaurant was a bit dirty.
I'm guessing that is one of the "unpublished" words that gets you on their list. Welcome! After an encounter with some of the goons from the 0bama regime last weekend, I suspect I'm on their list, and it's NOT potential contributors!
I want to be be like John Hancock, let there be no mistake of my utter hatred and disgust for Baraq Hussein mohammed 0bama! This USED to be the Land of the Free, but no more!
Could “Obama” be one of the words they look for?
I notice that some here spell Obama as 0bama, using a zero rather than a capital O in his name.
Would it be far fetched that someone is doing data mining on sites like this, to see what people are saying about Obama????
Nope....don’t believe it.....they’re all too busy looking at porn.....
They can spy on my Facebook page all they want. They’ll drop dead from boredom.
There are so many laws that you almost certainly break some of them each and every day. So whether you talk about pork, bombs, terrorists or daisy’s its important that the government not be wasting time monitoring you when they could be monitoring bible thumping bitter gun clingers.
I am not sure that it isn't true of bureaucracies in America. The EPA, the teacher's unions....and so on, that regulate us.
One of the words on the list is “Pirates”. In reference to Somalia I guess.
There must be an awful lot of NSA employees camping out on Pittsburgh baseball fan sites all day. Clint Barmes and his .168 average definitely a subject for taxpayer resources. /sarc
I’ve read that there were so many people monitoring phone calls in Russia (during the cold war) that there wasn’t enough power for the actual call itself.
One of the words they watch for is ‘homegrown’
I was emailing a friend about my homegrown tomatoes and thought, wouldnt this be a shocker if I get a call or visit from the US Govt because I was discussing homegrown tomatoes...
I hear ya’ brother !
Did I miss Freerepublic, FReeper and FRiend? Never mind, they have special agents just for FR.
I grow homegrown tomatoes using nitrogen fertilizer and I’ll tell ya, it’s da bomb. Shoot, I’ll bet even that sourpuss Obama would like how they taste.
How about followers of the movie series “Pirates of the Carribean”? Would they have to fear for their Internet freedom?
I’m gonna start making sure everything I do on the internet has one of these words. Vaccine.
