Free-Roaming N.M. Dog Has a Lawyer
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | May 31, 2012 | Jeri Clausing/AP

Blue the dog doesn’t have a home. But the blue-eyed Australian cattle dog has $1,800 in savings, a Facebook page and an air-conditioned dog house.

He also has a lawyer, who is working to get him an exemption from local leash laws so he can continue his free-wheeling lifestyle in southern New Mexico’s lakeside community of Elephant Butte, where he was abandoned as a puppy a decade ago.

Someone must be feeding him, or he is a very good trashcan raider (or eats smaller pets?).

Somebody said he snarls … but I am not sure I believe that.”

My 11 year old Golden who doesn't bark has taken to "groaning" when he gits up, or down, or when he yawns. omebody who doesn't know him could mistake it for a snarl, or a growl. It isn't. It's just a sign of old age.

We live in EB and see Blue virtually everyday. He’s a sweet old dog, living the good life sunning, eating (very well!), and getting plenty of fresh water. We contribute to his food fund every time we fill-up. With the exception of a couple of spoil-sports, everyone here loves Blue and treats him like any other “local.” I’m pretty sure he doesn’t have a lot of time ahead of him, so I wish they’d just leave him alone and let him live out his days as he has for the past decade...friendly, happy, and content.
