Amelia Earhart: New evidence tells of her last days on a Pacific atoll
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | June 2, 2012 | Brad Knickerbocker

Posted on 06/02/2012 9:11:11 AM PDT by EveningStar

For decades, pioneer aviator Amelia Earhart was said to have “disappeared” over the Pacific on her quest to circle the globe along a 29,000-mile equatorial route.

Now, new information gives a clearer picture of what happened 75 years ago to Ms. Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan, where they came down and how they likely survived – for a while, at least – as castaways on a remote island, catching rainwater and eating fish, shellfish, and turtles to survive.

I thought castaways always survived by having a soccer ball named Wilson and floating on a raft until they find a freighter.

However knittnmom provided the link I couldn’t remember to the actual and true answer to what happened to Amelia Eahart: The mystery has long been known - they were kidnapped by the Briori. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_37%27s_%28Star_Trek:_Voyager%29 :-)

The odds of her running out of gas close to an island, surviving a crash landing on the ocean and swimming to land are miniscule.

this website gives information about several post 1937 occupations of Gardner Island that could account for the items TIGHAR has found: http://www.ameliaearhartbook.com/new_page_14.htm

The article theorizes they were low on fuel and couldn’t find their next stop, so they landed on the atoll.

I've been interested in this story for most of my life. I own probably on quarter of all the books written on her disappearance, and have read most of the remainder.

And I'm always interested in hearing new evidence or theories, but once I hear the name TIGHAR, I lose interest.

However both of them (article, list) imply a total vacuousness of the mind of the poster.........

At the time I wasn't into older women, but now that some years have passed and upon viewing the old reruns I can see where I would have been attracted if I was that age then. kind of rambling but I think you get the point. However, even at this advanced age I still prefer Mary Ann.

Actually, one of the things which best distinguishes conservatives from liberals is that conservatives don't obsess with politics 24/7/365.

We have real lives, containing other interests such as baseball, bluegrass music, model railroading, gardening, tweaking our barbecue sauce recipes....and for some, Amelia Earhart.

Back in the day, Free Republic was a great place to go to discuss all those things with like minded people who also happened to be conservative. I miss that. Miss it a lot.

I got to meet her and had my picture taken with her (donation to the charity she and the company I worked for were on). This was back in the early 1990’s.

Yeah she still looked pretty awesome at the time.

I knew she was coming and donated for the picture but saw her walk by my office and I recognized her right off. Hadn’t seen a pic of her since a “Gilligan’s Island” rerun.

I'm not current on a Mooney, matter of fact I haven't flown any retractables in the last ten years or so.

Put in about 400 hours a year in the Six (my partner a little less)...I find that 1500 pound useful load suits the flying I do these days, even if she's a bit on the slow side.

The Six is a Great Plane and that Useful Load is Fantastic!
4000 hours a year is fantastic too! Who cares how fast one is going anyway as long as You are flying like a Bird for the First Time in Man’s History. My First Instructor and My Flight Examiner for my Private Ticket was Rated as an Examiner thru ATP and his License Number was 30,008. Only the thirty thousand man to be licensed in the U.S.! He told me to buy a plane no matter what. He then had a Mooney who nobody was allowed to touch except him. But his C-150 I flew
he and his wife flew all over the Country and he told me that He Loved it just as much as his Mooney. I am sure Bruce Story is flying now way beyond those Clouds we Love!
