If so, how as an adult did he travel to south and southeast Asia before becoming a Senator?

The First Time I Heard of Barack
It shows that Soviet Russian Communists knew of Barack from a very early date. It also shows that they truly believed among themselves that he was raised and groomed Communist to pave the way for their future. This report on Barack came personally to me from one of them long before America knew he existed.

You are quite correct. What if it planned from birth that he would be POTUS?
The book, “The Manchurian Candidate” was published only a couple of years before he was born.
The movie, “The Lion King” seems to tell more of this story.
Look at the first season (2001) of the hit tv show, “24” with Kieffer Sutherland seems to push that idea of a Black man as POTUS.
Make your list of Impeachable Offenses to be added to The Voters Class Action Suit of the Articles of IMPEACHMENT of Obama to be officially filed 11-1-2012.
