"The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area. Each week, Big Broadcast host Ed Walker offers listeners priceless recordings of popular radio programs from the '30s, '40s and '50s. Priceless, especially, for a man whose first sentence as a child was, 'Turn the radio on.' "

Hi Gina, how are you?

It's a solid line up tonight. The staples, some humor, Tallulah Bankhead.

The weather reports have been calling for rain so I'm using the oven today. Beef ribs are done soon and you have got to try these...tonight is my second batch.

Oh, those bacon brats sound awesome! We’ll have to try that, too!

Keith is slow-mesquite-smoking some pork ribs with a curry powder rub.

Tallulah Bankhead is from Keith’s area in Alabama. In Mobile, the Bankhead Tunnel that runs under Mobile Bay is named after her family (politicians).

This Dragnet episode is called “Big Purse,” not “Big Press.” They told Mr. Walker wrong. It’s about purse snatchers...

Hi Everyone,
Just got home from a family picnic, which was very nice. It rained off and on all day. It’s as green here as Ireland...

Hi, Doc! I’m glad you had a nice picnic. It’s good to get together with family.

Thanks for the nifty picture of Ms. Bankhead. She was something else!

Wikipedia

‘A sutler is a civilian merchant who sells provisions to an army in the field, in camp or in quarters. The sutler sold wares from the back of a wagon or a temporary tent, allowing them to travel along with an army or to remote military outposts.’

Keith and I didn’t know what a sutler was, either. Thanks, Doc!
