I remember the Platters well - the alarm on my cell phone wakes me up every morning to "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes." Rest in Peace, Herb Reed!

It’s really too bad that audio technology didn’t allow for decent live performance recording in the 50’s. I saw a version of the Platters live in 1972, including most of the original members. They were amazing.
RIP Herb Reed. Your music will still be around when we are all gone.

There just isn’t another group like the Platters. Every song they made was beautiful! Smoke Gets in Your Eyes is my favorite.

Always loved their music. Their style was distinctive and smooth.
My favorites: “Only You”, “The Magic Touch”, “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes”, “The Great Pretender”, “My Prayer”, “Harbor Lights”

When I worked at Harvey’s Casino in Stateline Nv in the 80’s, Sonny Turner did free shows. He and his revue played there several times a year. Amazing show and real music.
