In a new study of U.S. preteen and teen girls, daily exercise was strongly linked to weight and obesity in white girls but not black girls.
Although it's still important to promote physical activity in all young people, according to the researchers that may not be enough to prevent black girls -- who have a higher rate of obesity to begin with -- from gaining weight.

I am wondering if all of these stories regarding the dangers or ineffectivness of exercise are part of a campaign to encourage the governmentt to go after “Big Foods”. After all, if exercise is dangerous and useless, the only soution would be to control “Big Foods”.
You know, I’m not a dietitian... But it’s clear that people get fat because they eat more than they need. It’s all about eating too much. If you eat just enough to keep your temperature at 98.6 degrees and support whatever physical activity you have, you won’t gain weight.
It’s not rocket science...

Take your weight (in pounds) and multiply it by 9.8. That is the maximum amount of calories one should in take daily.
If you weigh 120 lbs, the most you should eat is 1176 calories, barring any need for additional calories.
If you weigh 200 lbs, it should be 1960.

I have an idea: lower simple carbs, increase complex carbs, fats and proteins, and increase exercise.
Ta-da! You lose weight and inches.
My dad was the same way. At the end of winter, he usually had gained 10 pounds and went to two meals a day until he lost it...which was very quick.
Imagine...for 60 years, he was 5'10" and weighed 185 lbs. No gut on my dad!!

Genetics aside, diet and nutrition are about two thirds responsible for how much you weigh and exercise is the other third.
If you don’t have your nutrition and calories accounted for, exercising will not be too helpful in losing weight.

That depends on your activity level. If youre not a habitual exerciser, that’s about the right amount oglf calories. However, if you’re activity level is equivalent to an Olympic athlete, that’s too few.

You are not taking in age/gender/metabolism.. I'm in my mid 20's, 6-1, 194 lbs this morning, work out 6-7 days per week..hard with weights and cardio.Very little fat. 14.9 " arms want to get up to around 15.5
I'm eating 3200-3300 calories per day and not gaining muscle mass nor any weight. A 19 year old friend is eating 4000+ per day on a 6-2 frame...protein shakes and lot's of chicken
There are some really accurate maintenece calorie(calories you consume where you don't gain or loose weight) out there on the web..Input factors such as your age, sex, height, and all you various chest, arm , hip measurements.
Pretty much..I always joke it's 99% diet and 99% working out..but you are right.
they also get fat because of the way they prepare food....from my experience (my college roommate was black, i’ve been to the projects in NYC 1000’s of times) many black people fry foods in cooking oil (rarely olive oil) to the point the food they are cooking (chicken, etc) is literally floating in the pan there’s so much oil (versus baking the chicken)....mind as well spoon the Crisco directly into your mouth...

...and vica versa. I now some true 8.5/9/10 white woman who won't date anyone but black guys. They like the British Broadcasting Corporation I guess.
There are some very pretty black women out there but for the most part I can see the white woman attraction with black men.
Just being male means that I will burn a third more calories due to having a higher muscle mass than my female equivalent.
i think they’d need to find a decent size sample of those who actually do it in order to find any meaningful patters...

One extreme example I like to cite is the Pima Indians of Arizona, who for dozens of generation existed on minimal diets punctuated by periods of starvation. They developed very efficient livers to the point where they could live for a very long time on 800 calorie a day diets. For an adult of European ancestry, 2,200 to 3,000 calories a day is about right.
Yet access to this much food gives Pima Indians endemic severe obesity and diabetes.
Likewise, most American blacks ancestors were from parts of Africa that were very old, geologically, with most salts and heavy metals leached from the soil. But North America (and Europe) is loaded with salts and heavy metals in its topsoil.
So American blacks tend to great sensitivity to both salts and heavy metals, with the incidence of high blood pressure at almost 50% among adults.
For this reason, black Americans need to figure out what their ideal diet should be, and not think that a typical European diet is right for them.

When our Marines were in Iraq in 2003-2007 timeframes, we were told that they needed to be taking in at least 6,000 calories a day to maintain their weight at the time (regardless of height/weight). ??

I might say that that’s too simple and too true for people to pay attention. It is, but that’s not the problem. People will continue to complicate the battle of the bulge for the same reason they needlessly complicate everything. To make money, to attract attention, to grab power. Fatties themselves will know deep down, I trust, that behind the mumbo-jumbo it’s all about how much you take in versus how much you need and how much you move.
They’ll listen to what’s a good carb and what’s a bad carb, what’s good fat and what’s not, but it won’t matter. Eating less and moving more is hard. Eating lots and eating things that taste good make you feel good, however briefly. Fatness will win, because it is the inevitable result of wealth. Which is to say people will be fat if they can be fat, because that’s just how we’re made.
It’s like how all it takes for my dog to eat himself sick is to put out enough food to make him sick. If it’s there he will eat it.

I eat way more calories per day than that and still don’t gain. No sugar and no fake sugar works. After going on a low GI diet, even my arthritis disappeared. Of course, I eat whole foods prepared at home, but it’s all the real stuff: bacon, butter, eggs, meat, etc. I don’t trust any charts or dietary advice from Big Gov. These girls are literally and figuratively Kool-Aid drinkers. The big thing in the hood now is the large cans of kiwi strawberry drink by Arizona. It has 25 grams of sugar per serving and there are three servings per can!
I ate more calories back then because I was a jock but not much more...Had a big fat chocolate sundae almost every day when I first worked....but that replaced lunch. I worked next door to a Kresge's and they had a lunch/soda bar.
I also flirted with the candy man at school and got a free Hershey bar every day.
Sometimes I'd give the candy bar to the school nurse (a nun)....and she would pronounce me sick and I would miss chemistry class. Ahhhh...the good old days.
Seriously, there is more mass in that butt than the whole little girl.
Yes, they do... that being said would wife this black women in .00002 seconds or less and proceed to make babies...and support with my own money of course..
And yet, they keep winning the track and field medals. OTOH, they don’t win at cross-country or marathons. Hmmm.
