LAS VEGAS -- Timothy Bradley promised to shock, though the biggest shock in his fight with Manny Pacquiao came from the judges' scorecards.
In a fight Pacquiao seemed to have in hand, two judges decided otherwise, giving Bradley a split decision Saturday night and ending the Filipino fighter's remarkable seven-year unbeaten run.
Promoter Bob Arum fumed, the crowd at the MGM Grand arena booed, and Pacquiao seemed stunned when the decision was announced. Arum said there would be a November rematch, though he blasted the way the decision went down.
"I'm going to make a lot of money on the rematch, but this was outrageous," Arum said.
Bradley came on strong in the later rounds, winning five of the last six rounds on two scorecards and four on the third. He won 115-113 on two scorecards, while losing on the third by the same margin. The Associated Press had Pacquiao winning 117-111.
"I did my best," Pacquiao said. "I guess my best wasn't good enough."
Pacquiao tried to turn the fight into a brawl, using his power to hurt Bradley in the early rounds. But Bradley changed tactics in the middle rounds and used his boxing skills to win enough rounds to take the narrow decision for the welterweight title.
"I thought I won the fight," Bradley said. "I didn't think he was as good as everyone says he was. I didn't feel his power."
Ringside punching statistics showed Pacquiao landing 253 punches to 159 for Bradley, who vowed before the fight to take the 147-pound title from Pacquiao. The Compubox statistics showed Pacquiao landing more punches in 10 of the 12 rounds.

That'll teach him.
Didn’t Pacquiao recently speak out against gay marriage?

Perhaps he did. But, so do Blacks, but they will still vote Democrat. See my Post #4 please.
Before the fight HBO had an annalist talk about the ref, who he said was a solid ref. Then he talks about the judges. The first judge he say is the dean of judges in Las Vegas and one of the best judges in the business. The second judge is a woman....and this guy rips into her as a real Amateur and how could they let someone like this judge a Championship fight. He thought the third judge was weak too. And how he couldnt understand why they wouldnt have the best judges there tonight for this fight. Now we know.
The fix was in and here’s the proof: https://twitter.com/Timbradleyjr/status/207553002964398080/photo/1
That pic was posted last month. Bob Arum is one corrupt SOB and Keith Kizer (and by extension the NSAC) refuses to do anything about this corruption.
Unbelievable....It’s as if they didn’t even try to hide it.
Not to blame PacMan, but this is why for certain fights one should always take the decision out of the hands of the judges. How? By knocking the other sucker out! While it may not always be possible (looking at the records of boxers like PacMan and Mayweather, even though many of their wins are by KO a number of them are still by decision) it is still the only way to 100% ensure the judges do not pull any funny act. It would be difficult for any judge to claim the guy dreaming of his granny’s pancakes on the floor is the winner.
“Ringside punching statistics showed Pacquiao landing 253 punches to 159 for Bradley,” but Bradley won.
Um, no fix there... /sarc
I am going to make a lot of money on the rematch..
Pretty much says it all.
Mike
The NFL is on the defensive about concussions, and we are still talking about a sport whose very objective is to cause a concussion in the opponent???
From ESPN:
Pacquiao has a rematch clause in his contract, and the date was already determined to be Nov. 10 in the event of a rematch. Bradley even had a mock oversized ticket and mock poster printed to show off during the promotion to show people his confidence.
So much for your "proof"
Mayweather is a coward (jailed last month for domestic violence BTW) and will NOT risk his undefeated record by fighting Pacquiao. This "decision" puts off any possibility of the mega-fight by at least another year. Mayweather hopes to retire himself or Manny before ever allowing a Pacquiao fight.
Coward Mayweather has only had 4 fights since Christmas 2007, since he has been rated as one of the top 2 boxers in the world. Pacquiao, the other of the Top Two, has had 10, and it looks like he just scheduled #11 for NOV (a rematch with Bradley... so Floyd will have to spend more money to cheat Manny once again.)
Manny didn’t want to hurt him after he’d taken him completely apart just as with Cotto and Margarito etc. KO theory, of course, makes sense when a fight is competitive but this was a jog the entire fight.
Bradley’s closest round in the fight was connecting one fewer than Manny - overwhelmingly the rounds were two to one in power connects. You couldn’t take LSD and come up with Bradley winning 7 rounds. I don’t like wrestling I don’t like UFC but I love boxing. As a fight fan that spends money on it over the years, they have me totally demoralized. The only thing that could get me over this is an investigation that shows a fix. If the best judges cant score a fight, it’s all over. I think I’m done with boxing now if this can happen to just to schedule a re-match. Taken in the same year as Mayweather punching Ortiz twice on the break on a fight he was actually losing - I mean what’s the point anymore ?
I have no desire to watch another PPV fight when this type of judging occurs. I dont want to see loser given a win and a belt because judges are corrupt or just not paying attention. When will ESPN, HBO, and Showtime understand that they are in control, not the promoters, the sanctioning bodies, and not the boxing commissions. If the networks cleaned up boxing, eliminated the absurd tangle of alphabet soup titles by awarding their own belts, and forced the best to fight the best, theyd make far more money than they do now. If promoters balk, good, let them make a living off the gate, no airtime, no PPV, just the gate.
As for judging, I want consistency. The networks should have there own judges watching a feed remote from the venue, the same feed we the viewers watch. The judges would have a better view, the possibility of video review, they would not be influenced by the crowd, and they would make their decision based on what we, the viewers see.
If the commissions, promoters, and sanctioning bodies required their own judges ringside, the networks would not even report the results, and, based on what weve become accustomed to, thats no loss either.
And one judge had it 117-111 for Paq, versus two 113-115 against him. It was FIXED. Boxing fans should boycott the next fight and the next ....
I didn’t see any of the three judge’s score a 117 - 111 for anyone. Judge Jerry Roth had it 115-113 for Pacquiao, but C.J. Ross (the woman) and Duane Ford both scored it 115-113 for Bradley.
ESPN.com had it 119-109 for Pacquiao. HBO’s unofficial judge, Harold Lederman, also had it 119-109 for Pacquiao, meaning he gave Bradley only one round. Most ringside media also scored it clearly for Pacquiao.
