The Prince of Wales has warned that the world faces a series of natural disasters within 18 months unless urgent action is taken to save the rainforests. In one of his most out-spoken interventions in the climate change debate, he said a £15 billion annual programme was required to halt deforestation or the world would have to live with the dire consequences. "We will end up seeing more drought and starvation on a grand scale. Weather patterns will become even more terrifying and there will be less and less rainfall," he said. "We are asking for something pretty dreadful unless...

I originally posted this story when it was published four years ago, which puts us 2-1/2 years past the predicted doom-date.

Can anyone document the implementation of his £15 billion annual programme ... to halt deforestation?

IOW, Prince Charles has officially joined the ranks of the rest of the environmental whack-jobs whose dire predictions of doom and gloom have not come to pass...but get a pass from the press.

FReepers have long memories and don't forget the fake cries of, "WOLF!"

Thanks; I had read that at the time, and thought about how they not only change (”adjust”) the recorded numbers, but also rewrite even recent history.

Prince Charles dire climatic forecast of doom was halted when we elected 0bama and 0bama came down from the mountain of Chicago with his putter raised to Gaia and cried with a loud voice, “Fore” and all became well.

Honor dictates that I defend HRH. After all, the Prince of Wales was correct four years ago - an ill wind blew up out of Kenya and almost destroyed the Earth. Within two years, Americans heeded the future King's advice and took drastic action to divert the hot air. Now, after only four years, mankind is on the verge of restoring the precious balance that Nature's God intended.

Thanks for the warning, Charlie!

Charles? May his mother outlive him so that his boy `Wills` and William’s attractive wife, Katherine will be the successors to Elizabeth and Philip.

The program was obviously approved.

Charlie, charlie, charlie! We realize it probably sucks real bad to have been nothing much more than a sperm donor as your entire contribution to the world. And that your progeny resulting from THOSE efforts are pretty much a bunch of lowlife whack jobs doesn’t speak well of you as a sire, either.

But why lower yourself even more by joining the Ted Danson, Chicken Little crowd and making assinine predictions regarding a subject about which you obviously know less than a hog knows about catechism?!

I like the Royal family, can't really say why in only a few words and I don't feel like writing a history of England here, BUT if Charlie needs so much cash to save the world, just how much does his family spend in tax dollars each year and how much are their properties worth? He should sell off and buy himself some rain forest and plant some trees if he's so concerned.

As someone who is a loyal subject of the Queen of Canada, I really, really, hope he chooses to skip a generation and pass the Crown to William. My fear is that Charles will be such a disaster that we ditch the monarchy, which has served us well, and replace it with something far worse. To paraphrase Churchill, a Parliamentary Monarchy is the worst system except for all the others.

"We realize it probably sucks real bad to have been nothing much more
than a sperm donor/drone as your entire contribution to the world."
that pretty much, said it all about (Crown?) Prince Charles... he (really) should
renounce his turn @ the throne and go to pasture with (that mare) clamille

The Brits are doubly blessed: that (1) Queen Elizabeth has stayed healthy for a long time and (2) the monarch is a figure-head. Otherwise this twit would be calling the shots over there.

Last thursday, the wife and I returned to the States from three weeks in Britain. We had some real nice days starting out, but after that much of the time it was bloody cold. 50-55 degrees Fahrenheit for a high a number of days and rain. But the month prior to our arrival was even worse according to my in-laws. All the Brits who would like a colder U.K. please raise your hands.
