Bruno's grocery store (in the south) has orange "EBT Approved" stickers on their fried chicken boxes and ready made foot long sandwiches in Mobile Al.
I called 1 877 247 4440 to complain.
That’s nothin’. The WalMart in my town has “wic approved” on flavored coffee creamers. ;-)
I don’t take any of these programs seriously any more. I haven’t for a long time, actually.
LOL. I first read that as “BET approved”.
We have a local Papa Murphy’s which makes take’n bake pizza. They have an EBT sign in their front window. On the plus side, they do not sell cooked food (they don’t even have an oven on the premisis) and thier pizza is very inexpensive and very good.
Delicous, but not all that nutritious.

The nice lady said it was legal to buy those items with foods stamps and this was just advertising. I advised her I would not go back to the store, have a good day. (she just works there, no since in yelling)
I can’t fault the businesses for adapting to the environment that has been created for them by government.
Bruno’s has to sell their products. Clearly the EBT is a large source of payment in that area.
I blame the government for creating the conditions that make it necessary for so many people to use food stamps, and for allowing EBT to be used for all kinds of crazy stuff.
One day, I was at the Safeway deli, and a guy was asking which sandwiches he could get with EBT. They told him that he could get any of the uncooked sandwiches. But, by that measure, it would seem like fried chicken would be excluded. Maybe it depends on the state.

Yep that your right to shop where you want to and it’s their right to merchandise items that are legal to sell. Both rights are being exercised. Have a nice one.
Agreed. You can’t fault businesses for trying to function in the current regulatory environment.
If we don’t like people buying prepared food with EBT, the proper channel for complaints is with our legislators.
I really don’t see what the big deal is.
If they bought the chicken raw, it would cost $4-$5. So they paid a couple of extra dollars for it to be cooked. If they cooked it themselves it would cost $0.50. So they probably paid $1.50 extra for a whole chicken.
They are buying food and they aren’t buying $10/lb steaks like some people on food stamps do.
Let them buy a cooked chicken and spend an extra hour trying to find a job in the Obama economy.
These EBT/Prepared food issues are state specific.
Taco bell and KFC lobbied to get approved, so why not fried chicken from the grocery store??? What’s the big deal?
Do they also have the EBT stickers on their watermelons?
People gotta eat and while I disagree with their food choices it’s theirs to make and it is the currently within the prerogative of a business owner to get more customers.
I don’t think the cards ought to be used anywhere but a grocery store but how would it be enforced....
The cost for implementing a technological cattle chute would be astronomical and there would, of course, be exemptions.
It would be simple to have the bar code specific for rice, beans, eggs, flour, salt and milk. We are so doomed as a socialist country.
Homeless people have no kitchen to prepare hot food in.
