For those of you blessed to carry concealed, what do you carry, and why?

Posted on 06/15/2012 9:17:21 PM PDT by LouAvul

My primary carry piece is a Sig P239 DAK SAS in 9mm. It's about the largest weapon I can carry concealed in warm weather. The mag holds 8 w/1 in the pipe.

You?

I live in "may issue state." Additionally, you must be 21+ to own a handgun in my state.

Sucks to be me, eh?

I used to carry a P239 in 9mm but found that the Springfield Armory Ultra Compact (Officers Model, 3 1/2” barrel) is nearly identical in size, holds 7+1 .45ACP 180 grain +P at 1050 fps on my Pact chrono. It barely exceeds 1” thick with the slim carry grips, conceals beautifully and has that wonderful, crisp single action trigger.

I don’t leave home without it. Texas tradition.

Hi-Point C9 9mm. Heavy and bulky, but VERY inexpensive and a lifetime, transferable guarantee.

I conceal and carry a non-descript brown wallet with a credit card and a few twenties. I only pull it out when I have to pay my tab or someone challenges me to “show some ID”. Otherwise, I keep it out of view.

I carry a 38 special ... was my old secondary weapon form my days as a police officer. Not as fancy nor does it carry the impact of modern weapons, but it will scare the crap out of any would be predators. Easy to hide and makes a hell of a lot of noise. Amo is cheap and can be bought anywhere.

I carry A Bersa Thunder .380CC in the summer. Fits nice in the pocket of any pair of shorts. Photobucket And a Bersa Thunder .380 in winter. They are light small and are very aaffordable. I have also put hundreds of rounds through both and they have never mis-fired. That and they can easily be carrried. Many people do not carry because a handgun can be uncomfortable or cumbersome. These are not. The standard .380 is a Walther PPK clone, but much cheaper and at least as reliable from my experience.

We carry .357’s in our Out n’ About’s I carry a Ruger SP101 .357 and the Little Lady carries a S & W 686 2 1/2 inch .357.

According Abood the average gun fight lasts 3 second’s and it is at 7 feet. So no need for the 18 - 19 shooters.

Taurus Millennium .45

Very close to the Glock model 21 but I liked it better.

Compact with stopping power. Why mess around?

I carry a S & W 38 special. The type of that was used by the shore patrol and coast guard during WWII. It is big enough to be used as a black jack.

We’re not blessed to be able to carry around here, but my sister had a nice strategy to keep the scumbags away when she had to take the train through the ghetto once a week to get to Civil Air Patrol meetings. She’d sit on the train reading “Guns & Ammo” and “Soldier of Fortune”, making sure all the little punks could see what she was reading. They never tried to lay a finger on her :)

I have a RAAMI myself, but have never carred it as a CC. I always thought it would be a good CC because it is compact.

It looks sharp with the wood grips!

What if the confrontation does not conform to averages?

What if the bad guy has friends?

An acquaintance of mine was a Federal Agent and a pistol competitor and he got into an exchange of fire with a perp at contact distances and they both missed.

Hope is not an effective defense strategy.

I go with the Sig P250 SC in 9 for my everyday needs but Jim's post of that Bersa caught my eye.

I have that exact same weapon in my desk at the office and I completely agree with Jim's assessment. I picked mine up about 5 years ago for less than $200 and the thing is accurate and never fails (probably have put a thousand rounds through it).

If someone is looking for a comfortable carry weapon on a budget, I would have no problems recommending looking into a Bersa.

I hesitate at the moment to apply for CCW...don’t want my ID on ‘their’ list. But if I had anything and were to carry, it would be a Springfield XD-45 w/4” barrel...with 13 + 1. It is not big, nor is it heavy, and it is accurate :) ... easy to keep on target ... does not ‘lift’.

Now my question...should I or should I not get a concealed carry permit?

You’re getting a lot of “what” and little “why”.

My “what”: You don’t have a need to know and if all goes well you’ll never find out.

My “why”: Given my age and condition, I couldn’t prevail in any kind of fight but a gun fight.

Glock 19

That's my cold weather/bulky clothing carry piece. I like the comfort of those extra rounds, but in warm weather it sticks out like a sore thumb. And here in OK, we don't have open carry till October. And till then, if someone sees your weapon, you can be charged w/"brandishing." Still, it's a wonderful piece.

I carry a concealed 9mm Taurus in Florida for self-defense of me, my family, and for protection of the general public in case of witnessing a felony in progress. I believe violence in our day will continue to progressively increase, and society at large needs to be prepared to protect one another. Law Enforcement will not be staffed enough to efficiently deal with the increased violence that is coming to America. American citizens need to step up and take back our country from the thugs. They need to know we mean business and will not stand for it.

“According Abood the average gun fight lasts 3 second’s and it is at 7 feet. So no need for the 18 - 19 shooters.”

Gun fights in these parts can involve 3 to 4 shooters at street to house or car to sidewalk distances. Usually ambush style.

In my opinion, there are so many millions of gun owners and ccw folks that nobody, not the ATF or the DOJ is even going to notice your application. At this stage in the game they're not going to even have time to notice anybody unless such an one is buying 20 guns at a time.

But that's just me.

LOL. I own 3 1911s. They are truly great weapons. I got into the habit of double action only and hence, carry those exclusively. But the 1911, as a battle piece, can't be beat.
