Suspect Fadi Boulos Chaiban is accused of defrauding at least two women in San Diego
Source: Scam Artist Steals $169K from Two Women: Cops | NBC San Diego Detectives are looking for victims or witnesses who may have fallen prey to the scams of a con artist in San Diego.
According to investigators, a 49-year-old man named Fadi Boulos Chaiban who also goes by the aliases Eddie Morretti, Anthony Paul Marino and Eddie Baker had defrauded at least two different women of approximately $169,000.
Detectives said Chaiban meets women on social networking websites and begins dating them. He then allegedly promises them a bright, lucrative future and gets them to give him large amounts of money for supposed "investments."
Once he has the money, Chaiban is never heard from again. He never makes any investments with the cash, according to detectives.
Authorities believe additional women may have been victims of Chaibans scams.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or police at (619) 692-4833.
a fool and their money, i guess...
Exact same story only a different crook was on Dateline last night:
Jun. 15: ‘The Perfect Catch’
Former 90s rap star, Tim Dog, is accused of scamming Esther Pilgrim after they met on a dating website. With help from a friend, Esther tries to get justice.
Are those people famous?
All the dating websites which I’ve seen all have repeated warnings not to give money to matches who ask for money or financial account information.
Moreover, just about every online dating article out there warns against it.
What did they *think* would happen if they ignored the many warnings out there?
