Pawn Stars vs Hardcore Pawn: Which is your favorite?
Self | June 17, 2012 | Self

So which is your favorite show? Pawn Stars or Hardcore Pawn? Personally I have to go with the latter because it comes closer to reflecting the grim reality of what I've seen of the pawn business, namely a lot of really nasty customers. And for those of you who think that Les Gold and his family are too hard on his customers, look at who he has to deal with.

My favorite scene is when the jerk who looked like a Cabbage Patch Doll tried to sell his Cabbage Patch Doll to Les while cursing him out and whining about being disrespected. Then Les replied by tossing the Cabbage Patch Doll on the floor and saying: "If I were to do THIS, that would be disrespecting you."

It made me want to stand up and cheer. You can watch the scene HERE.

Pawn stars, there’s more cool historical stuff

Hard Core Pawn, after all the complaints about them making blacks look bad, it seems now they always make sure they put at least 1 or 2 crazy white on every show.

That was a funny episode. I agreed with the gun store owner. The gaul of Les to try to weasel out a “deal” on the guns. The guy was already giving him a break on the price, but Les still tried to nickel and dime him down further still.

but I could never deal with their clientele

I love when people walk into the shop demanding an exact number for their crappy wares. The looks on the daughter's face are priceless.

I much prefer Pawn Stars. I can stomach just so much of Les’ bitch daughter and his whining son or his obnoxious customers.

Pawn Stars hands down, I like the experts opinions and the actual testing of things they take in. Hardcore Pawn is like a soap opera, I have never learned anything from that show except daughters shouldn’t ever be spoiled.

"interesting antiques"

That's why the wife and I watch it. We don't care about drama or even if a lot of the show is scripted. I never thought I'd watch a show about a pawn shop, but it is extremely interesting to see what a lot of old (and somewhat new) stuff is worth. And it's always fun to try to guess the lowball number the Rick and co. will offer the customer after the expert declares how much an item should be worth.

I like Pawn Stars the best. I’m originally from Flint, Michigan & I don’t need any reminders of how bad Flint & Detroit have become since I left.

That's exactly why I don't care too much for Hardcore Pawn. I can't imagine how their life isn't full of depression, especially knowing how (apparently) many of their clients turn around and use the money they just got for gambling.

Pawn Stars may not be as realistic, but at least I don't feel depressed after watching it.

And it's true: The Hardcore Pawn kids are so self centered, it only adds to the depressing air of the show.

Hardcore Pawn is totally scripted. I watched an episode where 2 strangers totally went at it and they both were wired for mics. At least Pawn Stars you know they are wired and put on a nice show. Pawn Stars for me.

PS. All those reality shows are rigged.

I'd be happy if I was only depressed after watching HC Pawn.
I always need a shower with bleach and a wire scrub brush. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhh ...

Pawn Stars.....I get tired of watching the grown kids argue like spoiled brats in Hardcore Pawn. The son is especially hard to take. I don’t know if it’s all scripted but it’s tiresome.

At the end of one of the truTV programs it said something about “re-enactments”, so I’d guess many of them are, and the Hardcore Pawn customers have got to know a camera man is right there. I also heard all these reality programs may not be so reality, as some rehearsal goes on.

An aside, after getting my buddy(78 yrs old) watching the truTV channel, I didn’t have the heart to tell them they were re-enactments, it was just as entertaining watching him react to it.

Oh, I’d take Pawnstars first, but I don’t miss Hardcore Pawn, although most of the time I won’t watch either of them twice.

Isn't that the truth! Again, I can't imagine living there, much less owning such a business in that neighborhood. I knew it was bad in that area, but I had no idea it had fallen into such a black hole of materialistic despair.

The "great society" indeed! How much more proof can anyone require, that the "compassion" of liberalism only destroys men's souls.

Pawn Stars is a great, entertaining tribute to capitalism: everyone walks away happy. The "greatness" of Hardcore Pawn is only in its stark reporting of the "gift" of liberalism to society. I don't need any more of that though; the actual news is sufficient for that purpose.

I've not watched Hardcore Pawn.
I suspect that, like many shows on the inaccurately named "TruTV" network, it is phony and scripted.

It, and other shows like "Operation Repo", "Lizard Lick Towing", and "Storage Hunters", were made to entertain the same clientele that thought that professional wrestling was real.

It flabbergasts me to watch those who run the inner cities (and schools) deny the reality of totally failed liberal policies/programs.
Example - our local city school system had an after hours tutoring program that state experts ruled ineffective.
So how does the school system "expert" respond? "Only 20% of the students went through the program. We should make it mandatory for all."
Oy vay.

Hardcore Pawn is nothing more than “The Jerry Springer Show” set in a pawn shop. I realize the shows are scripted, but just once, I’d like to see that punk Seth throw somebody out by himself, rather than mouth off to the customer while hiding behind two huge security guards.

Pawn Stars and Cajun Pawn Stars are entertaining. Hardcore Pawn is closer to the real thing, without the store closed and open to selected customers for the filming.
