Rodney King, the man whose videotaped beating by police led to the 1992 Los Angeles riots, was found dead at the bottom of his pool, police said.
Mr. King's fiancée found him at the bottom of the pool on Sunday morning at his home in Rialito, Calif. He was 47.
"The preliminary investigation indicates that this is a drowning and there are no signs of foul play," said Rialto Police Sgt. Paul Stella.
In 1991, a video of police beating Mr. King after a freeway chase in Los Angeles rocketed across the world, stoking national tensions over race and police brutality. Mr. King was black and the police officers were white.

Prayers to him and his family. How tragic on Father’s Day. What awful news.
Prayers for him and his loved ones, but...
When told to stop, he should have stopped. Much might have been avoided, but...probably not. It would have just kicked the can down the road to another spark just waiting for the tinder.
What it's doing in Chat, I don't know...
People like this have a remarkable talent at removing themselves from the gene pool.
Mods should move this topic over to the Breaking Section as to avoid these duplicate threads.
I guess he got his wish...”can’t we all just get along?”
Drugs?
Feeling dopey today. When I read the headline I thought it meant Rodney Dangerfield and I couldn’t believe he was only 47.
I’m OK now, thanks.
Blew all the dough on a rap label dream, tried to drive over an undercover TRANSVESTITE prostitute, crashed into several houses later, NUMEROUS MULTIPLE subsequent arrests.
The man was incapable of conforming to ANYTHING EVAR.
Good riddance.
Rodney King was on crack, racing through a residential neighborhood at 105 MPH, fought with the police and so doped up he didn’t feel any pain. Had he wiped out a few black children with his car, I wonder how the police would have been condemned for not stopping him?
I won’t miss him. It’s between him and God now.
I’m sure the race hustlers could blame this tragedy on whitey. Perhaps they will be able to start a riot or two over this.
I don’t blame Rodney King for that much. He saw a opportunity to cashed in.
Hopefully you are in a better place Mr King.
Where everyone ‘gets along’
THe media whore and pimps who stoked the flame, as usual, will probably have some splaining to do before they have their peace.
THose guys that threw that brick at the truck drivers head and then did a victory dance had better get right, too.
If it isn’t from the same source, with the same author and the same title it more than likely isn’t a duplicate.
Wonder who’s going to vote for him?
Yeah, a real contributor to mankind wasn’t he
Yeah, he became a great cause celeb for the liberals to trot out. Refreshed the race card for decades for these people.
And yet the Demonrats and MSM lectured us on “civility” after Giffords . . . seems they forgot about a videotape shown over and over with the ensuing riots, death, injuries and destruction.
Such short term memories they have. Now let’s see what happens with an innocent George Zimmerman
Im sure the race hustlers could blame this tragedy on whitey. Perhaps they will be able to start a riot or two over this.
Odd thoughts streaming across my neural network:
1. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to lead a prayer vigil.
2. Maxine Waters to give the eulogy at his funeral.
3. LAPD on high alert for the next several days.
I agree, I think he was a lost soul who was thrown into the national spotlight by a terrible incident and then the spot light made him into a folk hero to the black community. I say prayers for him and his family. Love thy enemy... I don’t blame him for the LA riots, I blame Tom Bradley, Maxine Waters and the other race baiters at the time..
Like I said, the media tossed gas on the spark causing it to get way out of hand.
Yes, and the race baiters.
The professional $#!% disturbers.
King, while far from a outstanding citizen, was merely a tool of the media.
THe same media that needs to make their own distorted fantasies out of the real story.
They tried it again, only not anywhere as successful, with Trayvon Martin.
Another time it was that democrat supporting nutwad, who they tried to say was a right-wing “Tea bagger”, who shot Gifford.
Never a retraction or even an admission they got it wrong.
On to the next story with no thought as to the unintended consecquences.
Its hard to tell who is more sickening politicians or Media types.
Then there are sleazoid Hollywood “stars” and slip and fall lawyers.
Man, there are to many sickening people out there.
Lost souls like Rodney King have always existed.
What was different in his case was the use that was made of him by wicked persons and their agendas. What was done in his name was far worse than any sins he committed individually. Let’s try to have this perspective on his life now that he’s gone.
Well it was election season in George Herbert Walker Bush's America.
It became a meme.
