Marco Rubio Qualifications
Vanity | Vanity

Posted on 06/20/2012 6:24:17 AM PDT by wolfman23601

Let's put eligibility and the usual arguments aside for this thread. What makes Marco Rubio qualified to be president? Looking at his biography, he has never run anything or worked a day of his life in the private sector. Other than being Cuban and having good hair, how is this man anymore qualified than Obama was in 2008? Let's not make this mistake again. Hopefully Romney, who is qualified, though I disagree with his politics, makes the right decision and picks someone who knows what he/she is doing to take over if he drops dead.

Romney says he is vetting Rubio.

My question :Were Rubio's parents citizens of Cuba, when Rubio was born?

If the answer to my question is 'yes', and Romney chooses Rubio for his VP, I will not vote for the Republican ticket, and will urge the 20,000+ AIP members in Santa Clara County, California to not be a party to a willful violation of our Constitution.

Marco Rubio’s parents, Mario and Oriales Rubio, were both born in Cuba. Both obtained permanent legal residency in the United States. Marco was born May 28, 1971 in Miami, Flordida. His parents, however, did not become American citizens until Nov. 5, 1975.

Thank you for your response. Please read Post #44. The GOP is, through Romney, headed for a presidential give-away - should he pick Rubio.

Was knocking off real choices to go up against the Kenyan the game plan from the get-go?????????????

He can speak to the pool boy without an interpreter.

The US Senate is a poor place to look for Presidents or VPs.

Rubio has no qualifications for high office in the executive branch.

The track record of (the few) US Senators who have been elected, or run for, POTUS or VP, is dismal. You need look no further than 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for example #1.

However, the string of losers - Stevenson, Humphrey, McGovern, Dole, Kerry, McCain - and the track record of those elected to the offices - Harding, JFK, LBJ, Quayle, Gore, Obama - should make you rethink the notion that ANY US Senator is a suitable choice.

Your guess is as good as mine, however I seriously doubt that many of the former presidential candidates would want to hitch their wagon to Romney’s for many deep seated reasons. I suspect everyone will work to defeat Obama, but aactively and enthusiasticly support Romney, not so much.

Mitt made his bed and will now have to sleep in it.

Please tell me you're not a lawyer.

Can't understand why my use of the word "precedent" in the context of my post seems to create some angst in you.

Would you clarify what does being a lawyer or not have any bearing on my using the word "precedent"?

You may be right, but in the case of Gingrich, this is pretty much his last chance to get in the WH. I don’t see him making a 2016 run, or a 2020 run. This is it for him.

If Romney is smart enough to offer Gingrich the spot, what possible reason could Gingrich have to not take it? It might taint his future political prospects? I don’t think so.

No, you can be pretty sure of this: if Romney says, “Newt, you want VP?”, Gingrich will say, “Yes, please.”

“...if Romney says, “Newt, you want VP?”, Gingrich will say, “Yes, please.”

We have a very different take on that one. Newt’s reply would be more along the lines of “No Thanks.”

I seriously doubt Newt would enjoy playing second fiddle to anyone, but especially Romney, whose presidency (sic) could very well be a disaster for Conservatives and middlin’ for the country.

I know that were I at the end of my political life, I wouldn’t want my name to be an asterick after Romney’s name.

I think overall Romney will pick someone with a relatively low national profile with a decidedly solid but non-contraversial resume’.

Well, we’ll probably never know since Romney’s probably not smart enough to offer it to him.

And if he does offer it to him, we’ll probably only know about it if Newt accepts (if there’s a turn-down, it will probably be in private).

So only I will get to say “told you so”. You’ll probably be denied that chance, even if you’re right.

:)

Rick Perry would be a great choice as VP. Newt would make an excellent Press Secretary.

LOLOL..Astute observation! I guess we’ll all see who (s)he is in the end. (though I seriously doubt that a practicing Mormon would choose a woman) Romney will be wise enough to delay announcing his VP pick until after the convention.
