<“Our last trip was just five days before he died,” Lau said. “We fished from 2 in the afternoon until 5, and he caught six and I caught five, which is just the way I like it.”>

< I’ll then most humbly pray;>

I still remember Homer as where I learned about the best bluegill bait I ever used, and one few know about.

Always available at any time of year, in every area of the nation, works in open water or ice fishing.

What is it? Sour pork!

You take lean (no fat) sliced pork (like a pork steak with all bone and fat removed) and cut it in small chunks.

Put the chunks in a small bowl, salt it moderately and stir it around. Leave it set out on the counter until it smells slightly sour. About 8-10 hours in most cases.

You then scatter it out on a cookie sheet and freeze. Gather the frozen chunks and store in a zip lock bag in freezer until needed.

(You tray freeze them so you only have to thaw what you need.)

For ice fishing you will want them cut about 1/4” square, for summer slightly larger. They will expand some when wet.

Can be used on a bare hook or a small tear-drop jig.

Stays on the hook very well and you can catch several on each baiting.

Give it a try, man do they catch bluegills!

Homer Circle was a good man and writer, he will be missed.

Bluegills bite like crazy on plain bread.

I have used bread, but it doesn't work as well as pork for the big gills.

So glad to hear from you Beagle8U.

I spent last weekend introducing two kids to fly fishing for bluegill in a pond a neighbor gave me permission to fish. The little boy caught a bluegill EVERY cast, stopped counting at 45 or so.

I love to catch bluegill, almost as much as bass. They are the best to introduce kids to fishing. These kids have fished for bass, etc., with their Dad since they were tiny, but this fly rod experience (popping bugs) has them so hype it isn’t funny. Dad said the boy as ordered fly line and went get popping bugs today. He’s HOOKED.
