Can someone please help me figure out how I can block/filter out the catholic posts that have the huge long picture files?
When I browse latest posts or latest articles, there are some of these posts that contain huge long pictures etc that disrupt the flow of scanning titles for interesting reads.
I have nothing against Catholics, just spam.
Thanks
How can I filter out stupid posts like yours?
When ya find out, cc: me on it, will ya?
That can be pretty annoying to scroll through on a small touch screen device.
I usually wait a few minutes and let them get pushed off the front page.
Seems lately they are getting bumped a lot though.
Will do!
Yes, that’s the main reason I am trying to figure out how to filter them out without having to filter out anything else - looking through FR on an iphone during breaks etc., those posts make it difficult.
I don’t know how you have your FR preferences set up, but you can set “brevity” to “headers” rather than “text” and you won’t see the full content posts until you click on the specific thread.
I too weary of having to scroll an entire page to skip their overlong ubiquitous screeds but if the Ist Amendment does not have a place at FR then where does it?
So don't let the myrmidons of “The One True Religion” irritate you—many of them are good conservatives otherwise.
Your probably pushing the Browse link which is not specific. Try “Breaking News”, “Front Page News”, or “Editorial” for more specific news. You may want to look at the URLs beneath these and set up a button or two on your browser. Just a thought.
Just counted 54 finger swipes to get past this latest catholic post.
I only view the headline and an excerpt of each article. If I want to read an article I open it. It sounds like you have FR set up differently. Check settings and see if you can change it.
Sounds like a great idea. Will try that. Thanks.
“I dont know how you have your FR preferences set up, but you can set brevity to headers rather than text and you wont see the full content posts until you click on the specific thread.”
I’m really trying to avoid that, because I like seeing the longer posts for almost all other posts, especially if there are pictures (especially the funny ones etc)...
But when I have to finger swipe over and over and over and over just to get through one catholic picture post, and then it blasts right past the 20 right after it, it gets pretty annoying
I have the same difficulty. And I am not antiCatholic.
Hmm is there a way I can simply block the poster and never have to see their specific posts again?
That’s absolutely the way to do it. Can’t imagine having mine set the other way, no matter what device I’m on.
On my browser, that option is toward the top of the page I browse in. It’s a blue bar with tabs for Articles, Activity and Comments on the left and Brevity: Headers | Text to the left.... Select Headers.
That’s nothing new for me.
“if the Ist Amendment does not have a place at FR then where does it?”
Missing sarc tag?
Learn something new every day. Thanks again. Much better.
Well, I have no problem with people posting things that are important to them, if its the appropriate forum, etc., but my problem is when they intentionally make it a huge graphics file so that I am forced to look at it. It seems abusive to me, given that I can’t figure out a way to filter them out
I don’t have an Ipad or an Iphone, but when I click on something that I don’t like I merely go to the right hand corner and click the X.
You’re welcome. Like John W, I can’t imagine browsing FR any other way!
Wait...that won't work.
The choice is yours.
That is why I don’t use a table for Freeping.
I think your title could have been better phrased to read, “How can I filter out giant picture-spam posts on some of the religious threads?” Just saying...
True. Good point. I guess I’ve never seen anyone else intentionally spamming and end-running the forum features in order to force people to look at their posts, so I didn’t think to make it generic (so as not to offend).
You mean like blocking any article regarding the Washington Post? I'm sorry but I don't know any way.
(snicker) I meant tablet not table.
If you find out, please copy me so I can filter out any posts with 'stupid' in them. Usually it is just a not well thought out opinion.
Just trying to be helpful. BTW, I’m a “recovering Methodist”, but the thread title phrasing did irk me a tad.
Agree 100%. These posts take up two thirds of the main page. Half the post is in Latin.
—seriously. Its one post taking over the board.
frankly I think the Catholics ought to just post a link to where the faithful can click if they want to read for an hour.
LOL - I betchya if they were giant obnoxious Mormon posts written in Latin, they would get deleted instantly.
Just did 15 swipes to get through the latest one of those. If you are prone to motion sickness, those posts can require a trip to the toe-let or a need for a bucket close by. Maybe some Dramamine.
Oh, so you don’t enjoy the Attack Of The Fifty Foot Burgundy Boxes, lol?
I’ve often wondered which diocese approved this FR ministry, since the RCC does not look upon private ministry kindly at all.
I agree. Why can’t they use LINKS?
Gotta be longer than fifty! They just keep coming . . .
My suggestion would be to freepmail the posters themselves and ask them nicely please not to do that. Include a link to this thread.
Point out that nobody — nobody — not even people in agreement with them, is going to read all of that stuff.
I would also cc some of the most long-winded of the posters on the anti-Mormon threads. Not that their datadumps take up quite as much screen-realestate as some of the Catholic threads but they do share the same tedious non-readability aspects.
29 posts (bumps) in less than 2 hours, including Latin. Wow what an effective way to evangelize.
Yikes! And some of them are not even in the RED BOX!
You’ve been using FR all these years and you haven’t figured out how set your preferences?
That's mighty white of you.
Tiki I know how to set them. But my question is whether or not I can put the poster on ignore or only filter out those threads. I shouldn’t have to set Preferences blocking out 99.9% Of the content that isn’t abusive spam
Some folks really know how to put the dog in “dogma”
Perhaps the people posting that don't realize that many Freepers have very limited time available to them in the morning before they head out for the day, and that those posts make it very difficult to find the important news items we seek.
Exactly. There are many instances where posters have been instructed to use links...they should be used here...
Why cant they use LINKS?Sometimes a post in FR is nothing but a long list of links, somtimes upwards of 100 links in a single post.Exactly. There are many instances where posters have been instructed to use links...they should be used here...
