WEST YELLOWSTONE, Mont. (CBS Seattle/AP) Officials in Yellowstone National Park say a Massachusetts man was gored by a bull bison that threw him 10 feet in the air and then pinned him to the ground.
The man, who is in his mid-50s, suffered a broken collarbone, shoulder blade, several ribs and a groin injury in Saturdays encounter near the Norris campground.

That hada hurt.
Al Gore’s Fault!
The dope should have moved away. Probably appeared to be confronting the critter. You don’t mess with bison.
the real Fast and Furious
Gee, a moron I used to work with is on vacation with his family at Yellowstone. Could it be?
Considering what a bull bison CAN do, this fellow came out doing pretty well in this encounter. The bison was just being merciful.
A charged up bull bison can just about back down a grizzly bear. Not an easily domesticated creature. The closest thing there is to a rhinoceros on the North American continent.
The closest approach ANY human being should make is from a quarter mile away, with a high-powered rifle and going for a heart shot. And to think the Dakota Indians once hunted them on foot.
With spears and with bow and arrow.
Mostly they just got them to stampede off a cliff, and skinned and dressed out the kill at the bottom.

He can take consolation in the fact that he’s probably had his worst. day. ever.
Cowboy up. Yee-haw!
“Park officials say the man was not taunting the animal, but let the bull approach within a few feet of where he was sitting and refused to move away.”
Way to show that bison who’s boss.
We went to see the large herd when we were in South Dakota back in the 1990’s and ended up leaving earlier than we wanted to.There were 2 guys trying to get up really close to then and wanted photos of them running. We decided that we did not want to be so close if they stampeded.I know by the body language that the makes were not happy about what we being done to them. Some people are idiots when it comes to animals.
Darwin candidate....he’s lucky he survived....maybe
He might have a good case.
Jackie Chiles: “Suzie. Call Dr. Bison. Set up an appointment for Mr. Kramer here. Tell him it’s from me.”
overheard before the attack: “Honey, hold my beer and watch this.”
>> The man, who is in his mid-50s, suffered a broken collarbone
dime-a-dozen.
>> shoulder blade
yawn.
>> several ribs
You got plenty of ribs. Big deal.
>> and a groin injury
oh-KAY. The ol’ unspecified GROIN injury. NOW we’re getting to the “point”! That’s prolly why they call it “gore”.
Another victim of “The Bambi Syndrome.”
>> Cowboy up. Yee-haw!
I understand that you can herd bison anywhere they want to go.
Like a good neighbor State Farm is there.
In the office.
Like a good neighbor State Farm is there.
We’re good.
Before hitting the main herd we started seeing the old solitary bulls hanging out on the fringe of the herd. A guy in a truck in front of us pulled over to take a picture of a bull that was standing by the side of the road. He had one of those 115 Kodak instamatics so, of course, he got out of his truck to get a good picture. My father pulled over and announced to the kids in the back seat "Pay attention kids. You are about to see a man get killed." Mom yelled at Dad for that comment, the bull turned, and as soon as the shutter clicked, charged the man who ran back to his truck. He made it by diving through the open window of the truck. The bull hit the door of that truck without slowing down, putting a huge dent in the door, then trotted away like nothing had happened. It was pretty awesome to see.
Yep.
Even relatively tame bison are ornery critters.
The wild ones can be downright dangerous.
Do not pet the bison...
We camped at Yellowstone Park in 1964 when I was 12 and a ranger told us about a couple who tried to put their toddler on the back of a grizzly bear for a photo. The bear wasn’t into it, but nobody was harmed.
(That story is here: http://galvestondailynews.com/story/323286).
(It's called WILDlife for a reason. That first syllable *means* something.)
Unless 10’ is a new world’s record, why is this even news?
BtD (consulting pamphlet): "Well, sit right there. Don't let him know you're afraid."
Buddy: "He's still coming, and his eyes are really red..."
BtD: "Sez here, 'Don't show fear. Make yourself look big and look him right in the eye.'"
Buddy: "Uh, Bill, he's startin' to breathe hard and I don't like the look he's giving me."
BtD: "Book sez yer supposed ta bare yer teeth and hiss at him."
Buddy: "HE'S CHARGING!"
BtD (flipping pages): "Oh, wrong animal. Sorry."
Depending on the definition of "groin injury" he might still be in the running for a Darwin Award. Dying isn't the only way to be taken out of the gene pool.
LOL! I just found this Dyson the Bison video for my kid recently!

That buff was just messing around!
The Park only gives you about a thousand warnings to observe bison only from your car. I don’t know why people think these warnings don’t really mean anything. Stupid is as stupid does.
The rule about big gators is that stupid gators never get big!
that line tells me that I'd like to be sitting at the table after a big dinner and listen to your Father tell stories.
When bison attack videos.

Nature has a way of weeding out stupid people.
We call the tourons - a cross between tourists and morons. Just about every year bison play soccer with one or two of the idiots who ignore the warnings.
The wife and I spent a week at Yellowstone back in Sept. ‘98. It was an awesome place, and they constantly warned people to stay away from the bison. There were even video’s of people who ventured too close and were chased down by these huge creatures (some video’s were pretty funny). If the bison approach and their tail is spinning like a top, they are agitated and it’s time to slowly back away, don’t turn and run, maintain eye contact and back away.
But these days most of the ones who survive have lawyers and generous juries.
Don’t Bison me, Bro!
So, you’d say the bison made quite an impression.....?
The bison saw the Massachusetts plate and said to his buddy “Time to teach another lib a lesson”.
But other than that, how was your vacation?
Ten feet is actually a pretty long throw for ANY University of Colorado quarterback.
Was his name Bill Cody???
