Fifty Shades Of Grey has become the number one best-selling Kindle book of all time at Amazon.co.uk, it was revealed today. Despite the trilogy only being published in March this year, the racy international best-sellers - dubbed 'mummy porn' - have sold over one million copies in the online store's Kindle department, while author EL James has become the bestselling author of the year on the site as a whole.

Pretty funny that a book I’ve never heard of is the best seller of all time.
You’ve never heard of the Bible?
Best seller of Amazon United Kingdom Kindle
sort of subset of "all time"
Best selling KINDLE book. Not best selling book.
Best selling Kindle book, on Amazon, in the UK.
Biggest frog, across the pond...
Whoops I missed that....you are right.. but just give it time to be the US #1 Kindle seller.
JUST IN TIME.....
First saw it last week when looking up “The Amateur” and it was “surprisingly” a H*U*G*E bestseller.
Can’t have people talking about TWO big conservative best-sellers coming out.....
—Youve never heard of the Bible?—
I thought of that when I posted. But I think you know what I meant. ;-)
its soft core porn IIRC
written by a woman for women
kinda like the “romance” novels of the 80’s and 90’s
Exactly. Not best selling all time.
Don’t ask me what caused me to type “of all time”. I meant “for such a long time”.
My bad.
(Before the FR fanfic squad arrives to pillory me, I am a former author of SF fanfic. All of it was self-published in dead-tree APAs long before Al Gore invented the Internet. Good thing, too. They were rank awful personified.)
For most of my five-day free run, EFAD was right behind this trashy soft-porn novel Divorced, Desperate and Delicious, AKA "DDD."
So I even downloaded it (it was free) to see if it was any good. It's just trash, loosely plotted to give the thirtyish slut protanotist a chance to screw a series of men, while pursuing some crime case I can't even recall. I read about a third of it and deleted it.
sounds Egyptian
Of course! But there was simply no way I could pass up a little bit of teasing like that.

Yeah, I did a quick google for a review. Apparently it’s porn. I don’t mean “bodice ripper” porn. I mean “Penthouse chronicles” (IIRC) porn.
This is sort of the equivalent of a modern “Deep Throat”, but mainly for women.
A lot of reviewers got tired of Ana (the main character) repeating “holy crap”.
"Mummy Porn" sounds like Bill Clinton.
The plot traces the relationship between recent college graduate Anastasia Steele and manipulative billionaire Christian Grey. Steele is required by Grey to sign a contract allowing him complete control over her life as well as a non-disclosure agreement, something that he has required from all of his previous submissives. Upon learning that she is a virgin, Grey agrees to have sex with her in order to prepare her for later encounters, fully intending that the contract would be signed. As she gets to know him, she learns that his sexual tastes involve bondage, domination, and sadism, and that childhood abuse left him a deeply damaged individual. In order to be his partner, she agrees to experiment with BDSM, but she struggles to reconcile who she is (a virgin who has never previously had a boyfriend) with whom Christian wants her to be, his submissive and a to-do-with-as-he-pleases partner in his "Red Room of Pain".There are a lot of women out there with domination fantasies.
I’m waiting for the cost to come down..
love my Kindle...
I have not read it and will not read it; I have though heard snippets of it read by Gilbert Godttfried on “You Tube”. Warning it has very explicit language but it is pretty funny.

So you just read the good parts?
On Amazon US, the 3 books occupy the top four spots; 1 through 3 are the individual books, while the 4th spot is for all sold three together.
I don’t understand why any self assured, sane, and intelligent woman would be entranced by such filth.

“On Amazon US, the 3 books occupy the top four spots; 1 through 3 are the individual books, while the 4th spot is for all sold three together.”
Yep, all to push the two big conservative books as far down as possible in any lists.
;-)
This book is about a 26 year old, buff, handsome, billionaire with a large uhum who engages a young girl in bondage, kinky, wild animilistic sex...the kind of sex women claim "eeewww" but deep down love(at times) but just won't admit it. Book sales say's it all.
IOW, the book tells us what kind of sex the author fantasizes about.
Hmm, apparently I’m the only one who believes big book publishing/sales companies, like Big Media, politically manipulate publications, promotions and statistics.
Face it, women love this raunchy sex stuff.. conservative, liberal, rich, poor doesn't matter. Why many women in affairs claim the sex is the best ever because they do stuff with their lovers they never had the courage to ask their husband to do because of social, religious upbringings and don't want to be looked upon as a little s**t by their husbands or boyfriends...but deep down crave it.
Out since 2011 and now SUDDENLY the biggest selling book, all 4 versions including the anthology, “occupy” the top 4 slots, with more complaints about the book than rave reviews, and no one sees a political angle to this?
We know that large numbers of women enjoy fantasies involving their being totally dominated by some Alpha Male (note that the fantasized dominating man in such bodice-rippers is always either super-rich, a nobleman, a pirate captain, or some such, besides being super-buff and handsome. The dominating man is never a pot-bellied plumber). We do not know what percentage of such are "self assured, sane, and intelligent".
Many women like the idea of surrendering control to a hyper-competent man, partly because giving up control means giving up responsibility and accountability.
It is poorly.. Ahem.. VERY poorly written Twilight Fan Fiction. It’s a sorry attempt at ‘shocking romance’ again, base on nothing more than Teiligjt series fan fiction. It is garbage and a waste of time.
Like I said in my prior post, many women desire pleasure without responsibility. Having a man who does what the woman wants without the woman having to ask, and without asking her permission, means she can deny responsibility for it all. It also accounts for all the rape fantasies in such "romance" novels -- "If I was taken against my will, then I'm not responsible, regardless of how much I enjoyed it".
I’ve been seeing it on the Kindle book lists for a long time, but I never bothered with it because I thought it was some kind of book about getting old gracefully (from the title). LOL!
After reading in Jonah Goldberg’s book about Margaret Sanger and the eugenics movement using the promise of sexual pleasure as a political organizing tool to rally women, I think the promotion of this book at this time follows those lines.
Sanger and her cohorts touted sexual pleasure without the constraints of motherhood. They believed that motherhood should be reserved for the worthy, the elite. They actually advocated issuing permits for one child at a time. If you wanted a second child you would have to reapply.
Sanger, herself, was a bad mother. Her youngest child, who Sanger admitted to having neglected, died at age 4 of pneumonia. It was perhaps for this reason that Sanger worked so hard against motherhood.
No secret liberal cabal. If this is a secret liberal plot how do you explain conservative books routinely being in the #1 book selling spot? This happens all the times with books-being printed and taking a while to get popular. Most get popular by word of mouth after a period of time. Most books are not advertised ahead of release like movies.
You left out the most imporant part.
She’s a VIRGIN !!!
You left out the most important part.
She’s a VIRGIN !!!
Interesting nobody has mentioned the “plausible deniability” of the medium. Everyone, approving or not, knows what the book is about. Some people want to read it but not be seen with it; a quick private digital download (wow, that sounds dirty in this context) and it’s available for instant access and instant concealment anywhere. Nothing indicates what’s being read except what’s actually on the easily-changed screen at the moment.
It’s the equivalent of stuffing a socially unacceptable magazine inside a socially acceptable one for reading in public.
Self assured, sane AND intelligent people are, unfortunately,a small subset of the overall population.
Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the General Public.
(80’s joke: F*ck ‘the General Public’ - I liked ‘the English Beat’)
As others noted, conservative books also hit #1 - much to the annoyance of those who would have any hope of inflicting "a political angle" against it.
I heard somewhere that Padre Pio listed curiosity as the most prevalent and dangerous modern sin.
If you are unfamiliar with the work, here is an audio excerpt ....
... as read by Gilbert Gottfried:

Yeah, I can just see trying to buffalo Saint Peter at the gate with those excuses.
I am a woman and I for sure do not crave any of that raunchy stuff. I find nothing erotic or seductive about being treated like a cringing slut.
I am a daughter of the most High God and my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. In marriage I share my full self with my husband and believe me all is good in the consummation part. No need to debase myself for thrills.
Fanfic is a wonderful tool to learn something about writing - I call it “training wheels”. If you don’t ever take the training wheels off you won’t get anywhere.
I have no intention of dredging up any of my old fanfics to try to cash in as original pieces. My original stories are so much better. But apparently this book is filling some sort of niche, appealing to some sort of appetites. Not the sort of appetite I want to appeal to so I really don’t care.
“No secret liberal cabal. If this is a secret liberal plot how do you explain conservative books routinely being in the #1 book selling spot?”
As I said in an earlier post, this is done to push conservative books downwards. And they’ve done a good job of it all of a sudden, and a lot of us seem to WANT TO BELIEVE there is no “secret liberal cabal”.
Interesting, isn’t it?
A lot of big books ARE advertised in advance.
And as far as bad reviews in advance.... Look at the hundreds of bad “reviews” that magically appear months in advance of any conservative book.
I’m not buying the “innocent” four-book first place bonanza.
Does he explain why it is a sin?
Yeah, books written by well known authors who have a track record and the companies need to get the word out to sell books to pay those big fees....this woman was unknown just as the woman who wrote the Twilight series and the woman who wrote Harry Potter. None of those books were advertised at first..only advertised big when the first ones were a hit.
That is one funny painting!
