An internet campaign has been launched to raise money to turn part of Detroit into a zombie amusement park.

The group behind the campaign is hoping to use the internet to raise $145,000 by August 10 for what they're calling Z World Detroit.

The fundraising website say the plan is "fun and unique" and will help "revitalize an area while creating some jobs for Detroiters.

It makes a whole lot more sense than farming in Detroit.

Terrible idea. Zombies have no concept of "line queues" and would simply storm the attractions. They also aren't sophisticated enough to actually operate attractions, so you'd have to hire humans....who would quickly be eaten.

They're probably just looking for a quick government loan or something.

And FURTHERMORE could any reasonable person actually think that a zombie would pull out a wallet and actually PAY for a ticket to something?

This thing is going to lose money big time. I wonder if the entire concept wasn’t drawn up by zombies.

Is the park to provide amusement for zombies; a place for them to go and relax?
Or to let normal humans visit a zombie themed park?

“aren’t sophisticated enough to actually operate attractions”

In “Shaun of the Dead” they were trained as walmart cart retrievers.

Great questions. I have a couple of posts about why this won't work from the "zombies go to relax" viewpoint.

Your normal humans question got me thinking along other lines. I find it very hard to believe that zombies can do a good job at designing a theme for anything. They just don't have the mental capacity. If the park theme was something like "walk forward in a relatively straight line until you hit a wall", I suppose it can be pulled off. But it wouldn't be very entertaining for human guests.

Zombie involvement in the design and theme would most certainly mean zombies would be present on site during operation. This might pose too great a risk for human visitors.

I think after looking at it both ways, I just don't see this being successful.

Point taken. However this is a far cry from the skill that would be involved in operating a carousel or roller-coaster.

I can see walmart cart retrievers, and possibly walmart greeter as the absolute limit to their potential skills.

Some folks are already making money off this sort of thing. My brother in law has a friend who runs Detroit Ruins tours and is apparently facing growing competition.

” I find it very hard to believe that zombies can do a good job at designing a theme for anything. “

The zombies would have to hire a normal human design firm to do the design and construction work.
This is no different from other non productive segments of our society who are incapable of doing things on their own.

I think of the Katrina situation where normal humans came in to clean up and rebuild; while incapable local residents sat and watched.

Actually there’s a considerable pool of talented people in the Detroit area. Most of them are retied or working in surrounding counties but they are there.

The Detroit Brothers custom cycle builders had a short lived show where they built various machines to do crazy crap. It was a rip off of Jesse James monster builder show but it was actually better. The Detroit Brothers made a point of bringing in local people for the builds. Playing the role of zombie would be a great starter job for lots of locals with few other skills.

I don’t love any city and I realize that Detroit is a favorite FR whipping boy but only a moron wants to keep a boot on the throat of any free market idea that might actually improve things.

You make some good points.

I would question, however, if this gets up and running, how many people will venture into bad neighborhoods to visit this theme park. Detroit’s reputation, so far gone as it is, is going to scare off a certain number of people from going there. And if the youth gangs start preying on visitors, this “good idea on paper” will kill off the whole thing anyway.

That they need braaaaiiins?

Yes. And not the lunch-buffet type brains either. Brains that reside within their own heads (the only brains that zombies don't eat).

In my opinion Frankenstein's monster was the closest thing to a zombie with an actual functioning brain. And I wouldn't want HIM running attractions at an amusement park.
