I have some OLD SLR and rangefinder type stuff that I still use occasionally, just to make sure it is working. Plus, I pick up low-res digital cameras for cheap when people are upgrading to the latest and greatest 1,000 megapixel camera. People don't realize you don't need the latest and greatest to take great pictures. Canon AE-1, made in the 1980's:

January Sun

A 1970's Praktica MTL-5 with a dead light meter (no functioning electronics):

Blackeyes 1

$5 thrift-store Mamiya 1000TL from the 1960's with a Montgomery Wards lens:

Forlorn

A 3.2 megapixel Kodak Easyshare with no zoom:

57 Chevy

A $55 Polaroid 6 MP camera from Wal Mart.

Odd moment.

My 2001 Kodak Easy-Share DX3900 Digital Camera still works flawlessly, after all these years. And at 62, I don't buy green bananas much anymore, either. LOL.

Those are nice. Did the lens flare in the first one come out of the camera like that or did you use a filter in Photoshop for it?

Just about any camera will give you good photos if you know how to work the settings and not use P or Auto.

I photograph sports for a living.

You are absolutely correct. The camera doesn’t make the photographer.

It’s like someone proficient with rifles. Give him something he’s never seen before, and with a little practice he’s hitting the bullseye.

The reason the digital stuff is obsolete is not the shutters or lenses. It because digital cameras are just computers. The ability of my first one (Nikon d1 in ‘00) vs the Nikon D4 this year is simply staggering. I can make better photos with less effort. But I still made a good living with the old ones.

Yes...I still have my F3. And I still use it.

You, sir, have an eye. As a career creative director and a fellow devotee of “get the best out of any gear” photography, I commend you. That’s high praise from me because I’m impossible to impress.
