Is it a dealbreaker if your partner skips the bacon in favor of tofu? For some meat eaters, thats exactly the case. The recent Love Bites survey of 4,000 singles conducted by TODAY.com and Match.com found that nearly 30 percent of meat eaters say they would not date a vegetarian or vegan.
Writer and omnivore J. Federer told TODAY.com that while he agrees couples should have interests outside the relationship, food is one thing that should be shared. Food is social, and the dinner table is where a couple gets back together after a day of work or play, he wrote in an email. This is where the relationship happens. The ability to provide and share food is part of romance, and I just can't date a person who does not share those moments of life with me.
Blame it on biology, says Dr. Helen Fisher, a biological anthropologist and Match.coms chief scientific adviser. She explains that sharing food is integral to courtship throughout the animal kingdom.
Its so common in the animal world to give food for sex that its called the nuptial gift, Fisher explained. Mankinds first luxury was meat, and when carnivores share food what they are sharing is this luxury. Its more than just cultural, its instinctual.
Federer tried but couldnt get past the distaste for dating a vegetarian. He had a two-year relationship with a vegetarian and another with a vegan, but said he always felt judged when they would sit down to eat.
She kept talking about the carbon footprint of a pound of meat and the impact of fishing on the oceans, he said.

Even those that avoid fat and salt because "it's not healthy". Guess what? If you don't get fats and salts, you die quickly.
Everything in moderation, and listen to your body seems much more sensible.

LOL!
I had a friend in college with several food allergies. He started dating a Jewish girl who was a vegetarian. Between the two of them, I don’t think they could eat anything!
So what is the percentage of vegans who won’t go out with a meat eater?
“Vegetables are what food eats.”
vegans = ugly shoes.
People who constantly tell others what they can’t eat because it’s not healthy are bitter that they have imposed upon themselves a fad diet and deep down inside wish they could gobble down a moose with a side order of potatoes and sour cream.
vegans are always steaming about something.
oy vay! :)
BTW, as a food service professional, I understand that there are some tiny precentage of folks that have food allergies.
Many are outgrown and that is never acknowledged. There are also a lot of folks out there that claim that they are allergic and are not.
Real allergies have histamine reactions.

I don’t care what a gal eats just so long as she’s hot.
There’s a reason cows are made out of steak.

My very best friend is a weedeater. But he’s not a a-hole. “You eat want you like to eat, I eat what I like to eat.” I find that, with meat prices today, I’m eating less meat. About half the time I substitute pressed tofu for meat. It’s quite delicious. And,,,, a lot cheaper!
Fat women are cheap first dates to. They will not eat in front of you. LOL
They could eat Chinese food....
Even among the various types of semi-vegetarians (lacto-, pesca-, etc), I'd bet that the percentage is significantly higher than 30%.
The self-proclaimed "moral superiority" of many vegetarians/vegans has always been a huge turn-off for me. (Eat what you want, let me eat what I want, and we'll get along just fine. Preach to me about the evils of my diet and I'll have nothing to do with you.)

RE: At the time he was 93 and still riding a motorcycle. He made it to
97.
She would argue that had he listened to her he would have made it to 127.
I love living in Chile. The vast majority of Girls and Women eat meat and drink red wine!
I limit my tofu intake after the study on how tofu affects males.
Everything in moderation is my motto.

Why would any conservative date a liberal socialist eco-freak. I’m sure their are some vegetarian Freepers, but I would bet almost all do so for health reasons and not for political reasons.
I have a friend who’s daughter was brainwashed and she became vegetarian at age 7, and he let her. Sorry, I wouldn’t let a kid that young ruin her health and stunt her growth by going vegetarian that young. Point is, WTF does a 7 year old know? It was pure grade school indoctrination and brain washing.
I would never date a vegetarian. Most of them are screwed up in the brain and living in fantasy land.
We’ll see how veggie they stay when they are hungry at night during the coming economic collapse. They’ll be the first to jump at the chance of sirloin.
vegans have bad breath too. Plus their other body parts tend to smell pretty rank too. AND YES SHES WASHED BUT THAT THING JUST SMELLED BAD.................
considering the majority are mostly likely liberals... who would want to??
Same type would rather have you buy her whine than liquor.
I have nothing against a woman who is a vegetarian, as long as she knows how to cook my steak just right
You’re right. Most vegans are that way due to politics. I would venture to say the percentage of Americans who are vegan AND politically conservative is less than 5%.
And I do put vegans in a different class than vegetarians.
If i were to consider dating a vegan, I would have to make sure she was simply interested in good health, and not somebody who considered a vegan diet to be a substitute for morality. Eating a certain diet does not make somebody a good or a bad person.
“I limit my tofu intake after the study on how tofu affects males.”
Well,,,,, at 66 years of age, I don’t worry about that too much. The Chinese seem to be doing okay. But, as I said, it’s about half and half now. And OMG! The Dim Sum pork sausage wrapped in tofu skin? Abdo-lutely wonderful!
As long as you work your body hard and burn up what you eat you can eat just about anything.
I was told ‘Vegan’ was the Indian word for “Poor Hunter”.
Oh do I ever agree! And ALL the drama that goes along with it.
It wasn't that she was a vegetarian.
It was that she was trying to convert him
I’m betting that closer to 90% of vegetarians won’t date carnivores. Most are liberal and rabidly intolerant.
Hell take a look at a dating site sometime and look at the liberal profiles. They list all the things they hate and who they don’t want contacting them.
I also noted that he was out sick 3 days in the 4 weeks he worked. The last time I took a sick day, Bush was in his first term. The pizza included meatball and Prosciutto toppings. Yum!
Back in the 70’s when I was in college, the cafeteria introduced a vegetarian buffet. I went vegetarian for almost a year feeling the PC pressure. My mom cooked a full turkey dinner in the middle of summer and nipped that in the bud. LOL. Moms.... Somehow, I survived my college years. I like my beef practically raw now.
Thank you for taking care of #15. I was about to hit the Abuse button.
He was enjoying life and not stressed out - a key to a healthy life. Now that is amazing 93 and riding a motorcycle - love it! And 93 eating bacon and eggs when most are on Ensure. I like gramps!
He reminds me of my MIL who had no restrictions to what she ate and really enjoyed food up to her end at 3 mos short of 93. She kept a spotless house, and I never saw even a dirty window in her place and she loved to laugh! She didn’t drive so she went down the street to catch the first bus in the morning and carried her packages back up to her home. I miss her, she was tons of fun!
Zealots are always boorish.
Mom’s are the best! Full turkey dinner, lots of prep and spending the summer day in the hot kitchen all for her son. I bet she enjoyed doing it as it sounds she was ‘on a mission’.
Let’s just say that I went to great lengths to determine that Mrs. L was a confirmed carnivore before we married.
I’m actually a woman, but I knew she was on a mission when I smelled the turkey roasting, and yes, it was a hot kitchen in July with no air conditioning. Hosting huge family Thanksgiving dinner’s year after year, I’m sure she knew that would seal the deal. “You can fool some of the people all the time, and all the people some of the time, but you can’t fool mom.”-Captain Penny
