We've all heard fast food horror stories, like someone finding a finger in chili, or a bug in their salad. But those situations are rare, and they hardly ever happen in Utah. Jason Garfields story changes all that.
"You know that game you play as a kid what's grosser than gross? Well, you find a glove in your burrito and the gross part is it's after it's 90 percent gone," Garfield said.
Thats how he felt the morning he pulled a piece of latex glove from the Carls Jr. Breakfast burrito he bought at the Midvale location.
"I was eating my burrito and I just got to a part that was just really chewy and I was like that's not right and I spit it out and my first thought was it's probably just a piece of cartilage or something that shows up in meat all the time," he hoped.
But then, he inspected it a little more.
"I was like this is not cartilage this is not a vein there's nothing animal about it. I looked at it and started playing with it and it was really stretchy and I was like this is somebody's latex glove," Garfield said.
The glove was a dark brown color, so Jason assumed it had fallen in the meat while it was at the beef distributor. After he got over his initial nausea, Jason called the manager at that Carls Jr. restaurant, then the county health department, and finally, the Carls Jr. corporate offices. So did ABC 4. After talking with them about the "accidental ingredient" in Jasons burrito, Carls Jr. provided us with this statement.
"At Carls Jr., we take pride in our premium-quality food and outstanding guest service not just in Utah, but throughout the western U.S. we are aware of the matter and our operations team is looking into it."
Garfield said Carls Jr. is off to a good start with that statement.
"Overall the responses were favorable everybody wanted to take it seriously and do something about it but Ive also seen too many times where they kind of patronize you on the phone and nothing happens," he said.
Jason wants to see the meat pulled from stores so no one else gets the same breakfast surprise he did.
As Carls Jr. Said, they are looking into the incident and they hope to have it resolved shortly. Jason said the manager at the restaurant in Midvale offered him a free combo meal. He turned it down, saying he doesn't plan on eating there again any time soon.
“Now with more MOLECULES!”
The *last* time I ate at Burger King, [early 80’s] I was almost done my Whopper when I looked down and saw a “crinkly”, curly short black hair that had been baked into the bun.
LOL! Would you like an EXTRA BIG-ASS FRIES with that?
Did they charge extra?
I once found bits of broken glass in a meatball sandwich. The low lifes in the pizza joint didn’t even have enough integrity to apologize, but at least I didn’t have to pay.
This happened to me last week at the Urologist.
What’s the problem? Latex is obtained from rubber trees, so it’s still all natural!
Perhaps an urban myth, but I knew a guy who worked at a dairy during his college days who claimed that an irate customer returned a carton of milk containing a condom.
“Carl’s Jr....F You, I’m eating.”
are we sure it was a piece of a glove?
